NOT the legitimacy of the product or any comparisons... And let me ask you a personal question... Think of yourself as a regular joe when it comes to politics and not an informed political student by way of this forum (or any other information places you frequent)... What has more influence on the public in general (the non-politicos)?... Something said on Fox News? (Which, as you would guess, has a LOW turnout among non-politicos) or tabloids and entertainment (Which, as you would guess, has a HIGH turnout among non-politicos)?... Fox could throw out 35 things Bush did in the last 20 minutes tooting his horn until the walls of Jericho fell down... And more people will believe a rapper when he says "George Bush doesn't like black people."... ![]() Don't discount non-news sources as being non-influential...I would guess more people jump on Barbra Streisand's bandwagon and Neil Young's coattails than listening to Katie Couric blather every evening... ![]()

Of course not.
Why discuss the quality of the SOURCE of the comments when it works against you... Quote:
Fox News, which touts itself as a legitimate new source, isn't (hypothetically) as influential on "non-politicos", so therefore other resources which are a few steps removed from the "Enquirer" are somehow required to be more responsible??? I guess by that logic, if CNN and MSNBC are somehow less influential amongst "non-politicos", it doesn't really matter which way they lean cause "US" magazine is more influential... ![]() 2) I would be curious to compare this to how many of these "non-politicos" even bother to vote in the first place... 3) Is the real reason for this question revolving around jealousy? You wish Fox News was more influential like you think "Us" magazine is? 4) I don't agree with the underlying presumption on how influential these two resources can be compared. I mean, the headlines are typically filled with "Brad and Jen" or "Brad and Angelina" or "Jen and John" or blah, blah, blah... I mean, if you want to go the "influence" route, how many people's votes will be made based on Us magazine. I really have no basis for a conclusion on that (and I doubt you do either), but I think it's optimism in American people which would lead it to a low number. Quote:
It's more of a joke than it is a selling point of opinion... Quote:
On another thread, you put out a poll on Palin vs Hillary. While I think testing it would be difficult, I would love to find out how many people's opinions would have changed if it had been the Pink Power Ranger vs the Yellow Power Ranger. (I think those are the female ones. ?) |

I used to be upset that the left media turned on Hillary and endorsed Obama. Air America was more anti Hillary then the right. So I would be the last to deny that there isn't a media bias. In general they are pro Obama.
But I don't think that Obama reporting and Palin reporting are different because of bias. Everything about Obama has been in the media. Good and bad. He has been answering questions for months. Palin on the other hand has been unveiled to us with a ready made story that we are not allowed to question or it isn't fair. They say she is ready to lead the country. But not to talk to the press. Some of the wonderful stories that they have attached to her seem to be not as accurate as first reported. This poll only indicates to me that the country doesn't like to see people pick on a woman. Nobody has asked an inappropriate question because no one has interviewed her. McCains camp has done good trying to convince people she is being treated badly. I think we are being played.

I predicted a couple of days ago that the supermarket tabloids like the National Enquirer would come out with garbage about Ms. Palin and her life.
Well, it did not cease to amaze me. There it was in the Von's store in San Diego, which blared the headlines by the N.E.: Sarah Palin's dark secrets. Uh, sheesh. It never fails, and I certainly won't pick up that rag. Whether the N.E. writes trash about Obama, Biden, Mccain, or even Palin, it ain't worth my money and the trouble to pick up a copy. |
