Default New York Times editorial

A New York Times editorial about a woman being picked for Vice-President...

Quote:
Where is it written that only senators are qualified to become President?... Or where is it written that mere representatives aren’t qualified, like Geraldine Ferraro of Queens?... Where is it written that governors and mayors, like Dianne Feinstein of San Francisco, are too local, too provincial?... Presidential candidates have always chosen their running mates for reasons of practical demography, not idealized democracy…. What a splendid system, we say to ourselves, that takes little-known men, tests them in high office and permits them to grow into statesmen.... Why shouldn’t a little-known woman have the same opportunity to grow?... [T]he indispensable credential for a Woman Who [sic] is the same as for a Man Who [sic] – one who helps the ticket.
You're probably saying to yourself..."That's the New York Times?!?!?!...Defending Sarah Palin as a VP nominee?...Did hell freeze over?!?!...

Well...You'd be wrong...

This is what they said in 1984 about Democratic VP nominee gerradine Ferraro...

The have no intention of repeating it for Palin...She doesn't have the required "D" behind her name...

In 1984 they acted like it was 1984...Now that it's 2008, they've decided that they'll return to the 1930s when women were "supposed" to be barefoot in the kitchen instead of running for higher office...

It just reinforces what I learned as a young salesman. People buy on the basis of their EMOTIONS and afterwards defend their buying decisions with logic.

The Obama supporters are emotionally invested in Obama's candidacy...heavily invested. So the NYT et al will be using any number of unlikely reasons to defend Obama and/or tear down McCain/Palin.

I am so proud of Sarah Palin. She has a list of accomplishments that can be pointed to with pride at the difficulty of their accomplishment, by virtue of the dollar value, in terms of what it means to the people of Alaska and how much personal courage and integrity it took to achieve.

She will be able to sail through all of the storms ahead because she has the same grit that John McCain has. She makes me feel optimistic about America again. I'll admit I have often wondered if America was on the way to oblivion. To see how Obama had become so popular, even with all of the troubling questions about his candidacy that exist, his thin list of accomplishments, his vague Marxist promises to redistribute wealth in America and to heal the World and his cult of personality, and realize despite all this that he was able to convince enough people to vote for him, I believed there was no hope for this country.

Sarah Palin gives me hope. And hope is not a strategy nor a destination. But it helps fuel the will. With hope you can make yourself last a year or a month or a week or a day or an hour or a minute longer.

When the fighting in Iraq was the most deadly hope is what liberals gave to our enemy when they opposed our presence in Iraq and fought Americans in Congress and the Senate to withdraw from Iraq. Those actions and statements were heard by our enemies and it helped them last a little longer and kill more of our troops.

Well, Sarah Palin gives hope to Americans who love America that good things are ahead.

She would make Reagan proud.

Their birthdays are only 5 days and 53 years apart, if that means anything.
