FOX Pundit Wishes for Obama Assassination, Laughs

During a live interview, FOX Contributor Liz Trotta jokingly wished for the assassination of Sen. Barack Obama.

This latest incident from FOX News continues the trend in violent rhetoric about Sen. Obama from pundits, politicians, and entertainers.

Grinning While Joking About Killing A Candidate
The incident happen in an exchange with the FOX News anchor. When asked her opinion of the recent scandal surrounding some comments made by Sen. Hillary Clinton, which Trotta described by saying that, "some are reading [it] as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama." Hemmer quickly corrected Trotta, having noticed that she had said "Osama" when she meant "Obama." At this point, Trotta said, "Obama. Well...both if we could!" Trotta then laughed gleefully.

What prompted Trotta to joke about the assassination of Sen. Obama was her apparent inability to differentiate between Sen. Obama and the terrorist leader responsible for the terrorist attacks on the United States of September 11, 2001.

Since Sen. Obama first declared his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for president, right-wing pundits on FOX News and a variety of other broadcast outlets have regularly called the Sen. Obama by the name "Osama" in a systematic propaganda campaign to convince the American public that a sitting member of their government has secret ties to terrorists.

As if she were providing a punchline to that long-running propaganda campaign, Trotta made known that the conclusions the public should draw were (1) that Sen. Obama and Osama bin Laden are equivalent, and (2) they both deserve to be assassinated.

Americans Everywhere Are Tired Of This!
There is no question that broadcast pundits "can" make jokes about assassinating a Senator and a Presidential candidate. The United States Constitution protects freedom of expression to the extreme. But that is the wrong question to ask in this situation. The issue is not "can" pundits make jokes about assassinating Sen. Obama, but "should" they?

The Osama/Obama routine is getting a bit old and in my view inappropriate..

It goes beyond "inappropriate" to delving into a lower mentality for an attempt to win votes.
You actually see her stutter over the "O-" portion, possibly trying to figure out which she wanted to say. It's idiotic and disgusting.

I think it will be a demonstration of Fox's "character" (or lack thereof) if they ignore what she did.

Same...

Standing alone, the article would've made more sense had they not turned it into a "Let's attack the whole other side" things...

This part here is where the author decided to do the Michael Moore move of taking a perfectly good story and layering it with crap...

Just look at ALL of these "right-wing pundits"...

See how it works folks?...the Left screws his name up and it's an innocent mistake...the Right screws it up and it's calculated propaganda...

Right....

And the assassinate "both if we could" just further exemplifies how it's completely innocent...

And of course, let's not forget the photographs and the right-wingers that purposely keep forwarding that along...

I think one of the defining differences is that if it's an honest mistake, you don't follow it up by wishing a murder on both.
An apology? Sure.
Assassination wishes? Not so much...
Maybe that's just looney liberal thinking?

Did I exonerate her?...(Hint - "no")

Did I defend her?...(Hint - "no")

In fact, let's see what I actually posted...

So I was IN AGREEMENT with the fact that was she said was wrong!! (get it yet?)...

It's when they tried to paste it as an example of "a systematic propaganda campaign" that I had a problem with the piece...

Simple question...Do you think what she did was intententional?...How about "systematic"?...

Yup...No one in the Democratic camp would EVER do such a thing...Must be JUST a vast Right-wing conspiracy...

Nope...I AGREE with those sentiments...

Too bad you did the same thing the article did and turned an incident where an individual should apologize for her crass words into some conspiracy where one side is intentionally spewing this stuff out as "systematic propaganda"...

I think that some of the Osama/Obama stuff is truly a freudian lapse but some of it is intentional. The left also pulls some of the same shenanigans but this is assassination rhetoric and that just goes too dam far..

The numbers of Independents in this nation continue to grow. Some of this growth is caused by this kind of thoughtless commentary.I love political humor but this kind of thing is sick.

You mean thoughtless commentary like, say ... a leader of a political party suggesting she's staying in the Presidential race because someone might assassinate Barack?

Yeah, it's a vast right wing Republican conspiracy. They even have Hillary working for them now.

People don't need ladies like the one in the original post or assclowns like Michael Moore to turn them off to one party or another. The actual politicians do a good enough job of turning people off themselves.

Just how many news people have lost their jobs for stupid remarks like this. And lets consider how many nut cases would consider just trying to do this.
This is one fear I have if he is elected. That is why I want to know who he might choose for his VP. I think he and the Nation are ready for him as president. But I do believe there are some who aren't. While Hillary has nothing to fear in this crazy Nation in my opinion.

FOX isn't on my list for news because of this and much more one sided reporting for a long while.

Yes on both counts.
Need I cut you to a variety of clips of the "Osama" thing put out to a Republican crowd, WITH THEIR REACTION.

Again, undercutting your point with the facts.

See, the problem HERE is that you are assuming "Must be..."
You have created your own strawman, INDEPENDENT of the facts.

If you want to go through the REPUBLICAN examples and discuss which ones were honest mistakes and which ones were DELIBERATE ATTEMPTS, then we should DO THAT.

But you are trying to pretend that there isn't a concentrated attempt by some Republicans to associate "Osama" and "Obama" WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING at the examples.

THAT is the part that kills me.
You are trying to refute the allegation while REFUSING TO EVEN LOOK at the people involved in the first place.
Bravo on the attempt.
Negative points on the lack of logic on the point.

It's like trying to refute whether or not Jack purposely bumped into John with malice, by avoiding looking at Jack. Instead, you point to other people who bumped into John without malice, and try to intimate that believing Jack did so on purpose is irrational.

There is an example of the RNC response to this nonsense.

I suppose THEY are being idiots for seeing the same thing I am talking about????

Would THEIR word satisfy you???

I agree "freudian" and "mistakes" actually exist.
However, a purposeful use also exists.
