Does anyone remember, during the Bush administration, when they chose to target and focus on leftwing extremist groups? It got a free pass and many jumped on the bandwagon supporting it.

Not listening to the other side is required by the rhetoric of "pass my bill, pass it now, with no amendments or reading it."

Given that that's the same rhetoric I've seen for the past decade with the only change being the party in power, I fail to see your point.

The vaunted “Left-Wing Extremism” report Hot Air

And i remember something about a note or memo that went out as training by the DHS about leftwing extremest during the Bush years that's was overly broad and miscast nearly everyone active on the left as a potential threat.

it's the state vs the people faithful, the rank and file left is a target as well, they just don't have to disarm as many, they do it voluntarily.

For better or for worse, the issue with Giffords revolved around claims that people were putting BULLSEYES / CROSS-HAIRS on maps (and other targetting / firearm symbolism / verbalism)
For example:

With the SPLC?
No bullseyes...

No hypocrisy here...

Oh, it was done with the same gusto, it's just further removed from recent memory, thus softening it's intensity. The Bush Administration focused on the left exclusively when it came to domestic terrorism. Now, I'm sure we'll here how that is legitimate while the right is innocent of such scrutiny.

Bush Administration Only Considers Certain Types of Terrorism Threats

No not really, It was during the Bush admin that the DHS Rightwing extremist publication that cause such a furor was written, it just surfaced during the Obama admin, it's all of a piece Coyote.
the Gov't doesn't like people upset with it or any of it's corporate partners.

activist on the left or right that aren't good party members are considered "dangerous" to various degrees.
