A couple of thoughts on this. First, It may be odd to people who dislike the POTUS at a visceral level to understand that most Americans don't see everything through that prism. Sometimes people want to hear from the POTUS as a real human being. Not everyone is caught up in the partisan give and take. An interview doesn't need to be a list of questions partisans want asked. The man is the President of the U.S.. I see people that dislike the POTUS saying "I respect the office but not the man" Well, That is fine for the partisans but once in a while people that aren't as partisan or as political as you or I deserve an interview without this rancor. We have news channels dedicated to pushing the political disagreements. MSNBC and FOX are there for the partisans to battle. The President has done interviews with FOX and how did that go? He was continuously interrupted.
So we have seen your type of interview and it isn't really something that everyone wants to see all the time. Sometimes people like to see the President interviewed as POTUS. Because we should sometimes show that we respect the office and the fact that the majority voted for him.
They touched on the issues of the day but the interview was about Obama's respect for Hillary and the transition at Secretary of state. So it was a bit of a fluff piece but it was compelling to some because of the interplay between these two people who were once rivals. It is a bit of history in the big scheme because despite our political differences of the day there is more to politics than partisan driven angst.
This being said the second thing I would say about this is I am realizing more and more how far out of the mainstream this partisanship is in peoples lives. Most people aren't interested in the things us political junkies think are worth fighting about. They have issues in their own lives. All they hope for is the the government is doing their job. Most people are opposed to all the arguing and political rancor. They don't want to tune in on a Sunday night and hear the same old BS they can hear every day by a wide spectrum of talking heads. Maybe once in a while they like to see how former political rivals find a way to become friends and work together. It's a good lesson for young people to learn as well.
Lastly, As a partisan myself I'm glad this pisses you off.
