Sunday talk show tip sheet
By DANIEL W. REILLY The “Obama Watch” is over. Roughly 772 days, 13 hours and 54 minutes after Sen. Barack Obama reportedly promised “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace that he’d come on his Sunday show, the Democratic presidential hopeful has finally agreed to an interview. Wallace had been keeping a running “Obama Watch” on his show’s website, trying to bait the Illinois senator into appearing. Now that Wallace has finally succeeded, how will Obama spin his 9-point loss to New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in Pennsylvania? And what are his thoughts on the May 6 Indiana and North Carolina primaries? On NBC, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean headlines “Meet the Press,” as his party’s presidential race stretches into the spring amid increasing calls for him and other party leaders to intervene. On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) floated the idea of authoring a joint letter with Dean to undecided superdelegates, pressuring them to make their decisions public. What will Dean say about that? Host Tim Russert also leads an all-star political panel with The Washington Post’s David Broder, PBS’ Gwen Ifill, Newsweek’s Richard Wolffe, Slate.com’s John Dickerson and NBC’s Andrea Mitchell. On CBS, “Face the Nation” is the latest venue for the ongoing Sunday show battle between Obama chief strategist David Axelrod and Clinton senior strategist Howard Wolfson. How is Pennsylvania altering each team’s playbook? Host Bob Schieffer also interviews former CBS correspondent Roger Mudd. ABC’s “This Week” leads with a pair of high profile surrogates: Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) for Clinton and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) for Obama. Will Bayh be able to deliver his home state for Clinton? Host George Stephanopoulos also interviews a pair of Democratic representatives — Artur Davis of Alabama, for Obama, and Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, for Clinton. And he breaks down the past week’s politics with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, Democratic political strategist Donna Brazile, Republican political strategist Matt Dowd and ABC’s George Will. CNN’s “Late Edition” leads with foreign affairs, featuring a pair of congressional intelligence experts. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) will discuss recent reports that North Korea helped Syria develop a nuclear rector and Iran’s attempts to develop nuclear weapons. Also, host Wolf Blitzer hosts a debate between Jamie Rubin, a foreign policy adviser for Clinton, and Susan Rice, an adviser for Obama. And he’ll interview Democratic Sens. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, who supports Obama, and Charles Schumer of New York, who’s backing Clinton. Bloomberg’s "Political Capital” focuses on the economy, featuring Al Hunt’s interview with Robert Steel, Treasury’s undersecretary for domestic finance, who will discuss the credit crisis. Finally, C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” hosts Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health’s National Human Genome Research Institute. He’ll be questioned by Rick Weiss of The Washington Post and Jonathan Rockoff of The Baltimore Sun. Sunday talk show tip sheet - Daniel W. Reilly - Politico.com

Somebody, please let me know if they ask Roger Mudd what he thinks of the current race for the Presidency and his reaction. I don't get a lot of news right now unless it's online.

Sunday talk show tip sheet
Update With the presidential battle lines finally drawn for this fall’s general election, the Sunday talk shows begin their five-month march to Election Day with all-star lineups for Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.). The nominees-in-waiting themselves are taking the day off — at least off the Sunday shows. “Fox News Sunday” leads the surrogate way with two governors often mentioned as possible vice presidential running mates — Minnesota Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty for McCain and Virginia Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine for Obama. CBS’ “Face the Nation” features another Virginian also often reported to be on Obama’s short VP list: Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.). CBS host Bob Schieffer also discusses the end of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign with Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), an ardent Clinton backer who pushed the New York senator to leave the stage soon after Obama claimed the Democratic presidential nomination on Tuesday. Then, Clinton Communications Director Howard Wolfson makes what could be one of his last Sunday show appearances in his current role as he discusses Clinton’s future. Politico’s Roger Simon rounds out the CBS lineup. ABC’s “This Week” features interviews with two high-profile campaign surrogates — Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a long-time McCain confidant. ABC host George Stephanopoulos also sits down with the woman of the hour, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who hosted a secret late-night meeting between Obama and Clinton at her Washington home on Thursday. Will she offer any new details on Sunday? Finally, Stephanopoulos breaks down the week’s politics with The Washington Post's Jonathan Capeheart, Time magazine's Jay Carney and ABC's Claire Shipman and George Will. CNN’s “Late Edition” also leads with a surrogate face off, this one between McCain’s fellow Arizona Republican senator, Jon Kyl, and Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. (D-Pa.), a prominent Obama supporter. CNN host Wolf Blitzer also discusses the war on terror and the ongoing hunt for Osama bin Laden with Husain Haqqani, the Pakistani ambassador to the United States. Feinstein appears, too, on “Late Edition” to discuss Thursday’s late-night Obama-Clinton meeting. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) rounds out the CNN lineup. NBC’s “Meet the Press” features an hour-long political roundtable, hosted by Tim Russert and featuring an in-house panel of NBC reporters: Ron Allen, Lee Cowan, David Gregory, Andrea Mitchell, Kelly O’Donnell and Chuck Todd. With oil prices breaking yet another record on Friday, C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” features an interview with Deputy Energy Secretary Jeffrey Kupfer, who’ll face questions from Reuters' Chris Baltimore and The Washington Post's Steven Mufson. And now that the Democratic nomination battle is finally over, former House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.) looks back on the hard-fought race with Al Hunt on Bloomberg’s “Political Capital.” Sunday talk show tip sheet - Daniel W. I'm thinkin' Obama will pick another smoker like himself, and McCain will pick a veep who can cuss like a sailor.
Just off the top of my head the later sounds like Cheney but he's already had the honor. ![]()

Sunday talk show tip sheet
By DANIEL W. REILLY |For 6/22/08 Updated for this Sunday! A week after the death of “Meet the Press” host Tim Russert, the talk shows return to their regularly scheduled programming Sunday, albeit with a heavy heart. And all eyes will be on “Meet,” as it’s called in the trade, as “NBC Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams sits in as host for the day. The show features the two guests — Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) — who were originally scheduled to appear on last Sunday’s show, which was turned into an hourlong Russert tribute. Expect plenty of fireworks as these two loquacious senators defend their party’s respective presidential contenders and square off on the nation’s sagging economy and the war in Iraq. CNBC’s John Harwood and NBC’s Andrea Mitchell round out the lineup. “Fox News Sunday” features a matchup of two of the presidential candidates’ top surrogates: former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, and former Gov. Tom Ridge (R-Pa.), a close friend of Arizona Sen. John McCain. Will Ridge address the swirling rumors that he’s in the running to be McCain’s No. 2? Yet another surrogate, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, makes the Sunday show rounds on behalf of Obama, appearing on both CBS’s “Face the Nation” and CNN’s “Late Edition.” CBS also interviews former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, now a top McCain adviser. And Politico Editor-in-Chief John F. Harris rounds out the lineup. Bloomberg’s “Political Capital” lands a big get this weekend, with an interview with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). ABC’s “This Week” features a panel discussion on the issue on everyone’s mind these days: sky-high gasoline prices that are headed even higher. The panel features Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), oil lobbyist Red Cavaney and Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. ABC host George Stephanopoulos also breaks down the week’s politics with Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, Republican strategist Matthew Dowd and ABC’s Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson. In addition to Richardson, CNN’s “Late Edition” interviews Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a Republican also rumored to be near the top of McCain’s list of potential running mates. Will Pawlenty offer any clues to the selection process? Also on CNN, a pair of congressmen debate the hot-button issue of offshore oil drilling: Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.), an Obama supporter, and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who backs McCain. The issue made new headlines this week when McCain reversed course and urged the lifting of the offshore ban. In addition, CNN hosts an economic debate between a pair of top presidential campaign advisers: McCain aide Douglas Holtz-Eakin and Obama adviser Robert Reich, who was a secretary of labor in the Clinton administration. Finally, C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” features an interview with Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.), co-chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition, who’ll be questioned by Gail Russell Chaddock of The Christian Science Monitor and Richard Cowan of Reuters. Good thing I have a remote. Looks like a good line up. The energy/gasoline price talks should be interesting.

I'm still looking for a candidate. Sure hate to vote just to cancel an idiot's vote for Obama.
