I worry about every penny. When we have 16 trillion to pay off nothing is too small to not worry about. Especially when cutting it won't even make a difference in peoples lives. Seriously, Sesame Street and PBS will be just fine. The worst that would happen is The Cartoon Channel takes Sesame Street and makes a fortune and the nature programs move to NatGeo. They seem to be making it fine without government assistance.

If PBS is proud of their achievements they can become even prouder when they get off the government tit and prove they can stand on their own.
Since PBS is offering rebuttals to to a candidate's statement, about funding, it isn't really a neutral, apolitical institution, and should not receive public funding.

Correct...

Backing Democrat policy, even for the sake of self-preservation, is STILL political advocacy...

You remind me of the sarcastic remark made as a response to this absurd logic...

"A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking real money."

ALL of that can be filed under the same thing...

Just as in your diet analogy, it would be stupid to exclude lemon pies while still allowing all other kinds...

Romney plan isn't JUST to get rid of lemon pies...He wants to eliminate pies altogether...So each individual pie might be a "fraction", but "pies" as a group is quite a large chunk of change...
More broadly, people seem to want to focus on PBS but what Romney actually said before mentioning anything about Big Bird or Jim Lehrer was...

"What things would I cut from spending? I will eliminate all programs by this test: Is the program so critical it's worth borrowing money from China to pay for it? And if not, I'll get rid of it..."

He also said he'd dump Obamacare.

But yeah, I think I get your point too. When Romney goes through his list striking out names if he strikes one, but scrolls past another in the same category there will be complaints.

But it's like I was insinuating earlier too, when that list actually comes out PBS will be the least of anybody's worries. The next one alphabetically - PP - is where the real wailing and chest beating is going to begin.

In fact Obama missed a bet there. He should have asked outright, "Is Planned Parenthood on your list?".

Nice diversion to hide behind the percentage of the Federal budget instead of absolute number. $400 million per year is a lot of money, that might actually cause people to agree the susidy has to go.

It is the same old falsehood used to protect any government social program, without a susidy the poor and downtrodden will suffer. As Romney said Big Bird will do just fine without tax dollars.

Absolutely correct,I've been against publicly funding PBS and NPR for years and that's part of the reason. My main reason is that I believe seed money should not be perpetually sewn. It's time for them to stand on their own.
