Default Study Finds Fox News Viewers Least Informed Of All Viewers

This is not the previous state-wide study, which arrived at the same conclusion, but a new, national one.

Study Finds Fox News Viewers Least Informed Of All Viewers
Quote:
Another study has concluded that people who only watch Fox News are less informed than all other news consumers.

Researchers at Farleigh Dickinson University updated a study they had conducted in late 2011. That study only sampled respondents from New Jersey, where the university is located. This time, the researchers conducted a nationwide poll.

The poll asked questions about international news (Iran, Egypt, Syria and Greece were included) and domestic affairs (Republican primaries, Congress, unemployment and the Keystone XL pipeline.)

The pollsters found that people were usually able to answer 1.8 out of 4 questions on foreign news, and 1.6 of 5 questions on domestic news, and that people who don't watch any news were able to get 1.22 of the questions on domestic policy right.

As the study explained, though, people who watched only Fox News fared worse:
The largest effect is that of Fox News: all else being equal, someone who watched only Fox News would be expected to answer just 1.04 domestic questions correctly -- a figure which is significantly worse than if they had reported watching no media at all. On the other hand, if they listened only to NPR, they would be expected to answer 1.51 questions correctly; viewers of Sunday morning talk shows fare similarly well. And people watching only The Daily Show with Jon Stewart could answer about 1.42 questions correctly.
Other networks also did badly in some sections; MSNBC viewers and Fox News viewers both fared worse in answering international questions than people who watched no news.

People who only listened to NPR or watched Sunday morning talk shows or "The Daily Show" did the best in the study.

Any person who uses one and only one source for 'news and information', no matter the political standing, will spout what they hear.

Any person who uses sources that lean only one way politcally, will also spout what they hear.

There are no 'nuetral' sources. One needs to learn from many sources, think it through, and then decide what blend of facts are the truth.

I usually apply Occam's Razor.

A study printed in a liberal tabloid? They even spelled the name of the University wrong. I also can't help but notice that PublicMind, the university group that conducted the poll, doesn't seem to have published the poll questions.
Into the circular file with this one.

Very believable.

Yes it is believable. Both Fox and MSNBC cover politics and national issues primarily. CNN and other major publications cover way more international news than these two cable news outlets. Therefore, those that don't vary their sources can be left out on those very important international stories. At least that's my theory.

I'd be surprised if they did publish the poll questions. The last time they presented this bogus poll study it was picked apart on the grounds the questions were leading, and the answers subjective (some would say wrong).

These bogus, unscientific, leftist studies are starting to get so contrived the average person wouldn't bother using them for toilet paper. I'm surprised nobody posted that other silly amygdala study purporting to report conservatives have larger 'primitive' brains.

Again this is what those who wish to one day become totalitarians historically do. They attempt to claim they have the science showing the opposition is in some way provably inferior. I'd give you examples, but I don't want people to go all Godwin on me.

And (as usual ), if you go to the poll, you'll see a 9 point Democrat advantage....

This is like saying "We asked a 9% more Hatfields than the McCoys about their opinion of the McCoys, and found that most think the McCoys are stupid."...

As I understand it they asked civics and history questions of these people and also asked what they watch.
But yes it goes without saying if a person watches narrow programing like MSNBC and Fox news offer, they would have a stunted perception of world affairs.

Seems every day I turn around there is some poll claiming this network has the dumbest viewers and that network has the dumbest viewers, blah blah blah.

Very sad that bias and partisan politics have gripped the majority of this nation and turned them into robots who simply repeat party rhetoric and attack the other side just because.

If these people spent just a fraction of the time on solving the problems and issues and working on compromises as opposed to grasping at any straw to attack the other side with this country would be in far better shape.

But let us not allow common sense and logic get in the way of a good-old bias and inaccurate cheap shot.

I seriously believe if any of these political hacks thought for themselves for once they would spontaneously combust.

Wasn't this the report that was written in crayon on the side of an empty paper towel case?
