Quote:
TEL AVIV, Israel, March 30 (UPI) -- Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak agreed Sunday to implement the so-called road map for peace.
After meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Tel Aviv, Israel, Sunday, the Palestinian officials agreed to implement the Phase 1 portion of the proposed peace plan in order to improve security in the region, a U.S. State Department release said.
While Israel has agreed to ease up on movement regulations in the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority agreed to take on increased responsibility for security in the region.
The improved West Bank efforts will be in part funded and advised by members of the international community, including the United States.
The two Middle Eastern leaders also agreed to implement projects to improve economic development in the region, the release reported.
