I do not believe it is properly gracious to speak ill of the recently departed. (For a very select few--say, Osama bin Laden--I would make an exception to this rule. But for very few, indeed.)

For instance, when the late Sen. Teddy Kennedy passed away, in August 2009, I did not disparage the man. And that, despite my severe political-philosophy differences with him. (And, of course, matters involving his personal life, also.)

To do so, after such a very short interval since the person's death, seems to me to be in very poor taste...

You may have been that exception to the rule. Many jumped on that right away. We ended up (I guess it was me) making a memorial thread and then had other threads where anything permissible on the forum goes and did.

But yes I think it's a bit disingenuous on a political board to call some one out a couple months after someone's death. Especially when his work is being carried on to some extent.

I disagree. When he passed away, I was sad that someone that young died so unexpectedly and even sadder that his young children would grow up with out their father. That is honest sentiment.

But morbidity does not confer sainthood and I'm sick of pretending it does. A jerk (or an ass) is still a jerk (or an ass) and nothing changes that just as nothing will put back together the lives of the people he hurt with his "journalistic" style and dishonest reporting.

Good for you.

How long is long enough? One month? One year? Three years? I think it's poor taste to disparage him by jumping with joy upon his demise (I would agree) - however, if he is going to be used as a source, then I will address that source as I see fit and not pretend it's beyond the pale.
