Okay, I've held out on commenting on this for about as long as I could.

I'm sure that Monica Crowley wanted to make a funny comment about Sandra Fluke as a means to disparage or poke fun at Fluke. This is done by both sides of the aisle when trying to get at political enemies.

Sure, we should do better, but this sort of commentary isn't going anywhere and is used almost instinctually.

The problem that I have with the commentary is the fundamental assumptions made by Crowley in her attempt to be funny. The assumptions made, for the joke to be funny, is that women marrying women is funny. It's not. Neither is men marrying men. There is nothing laughable about those two things anymore than the laughable things about heterosexual marriage.

I'm sure Crowley wasn't thinking about these things when she made the joke, but that's really part of the problem. She wasn't thinking and just assumed that it's okay to continue such mindless juvenile thinking.

or

B) "Really? Aren't all feminist bitches lesbians?"

Either way, stereotypically homophobic. And NOT funny. Unless you find Don Rickles a hoot.
