Staging "Islamophobia" in Holland
Quote:
Still trust the media?...Still believe that Islamaphobia is such the rage the media makes it out to be?... ![]()

If I saw a woman who looked Muslim and who was wearing just a head scarf or something , I can't imagine I wouldn't stop to help.
If I saw a woman in a full-on mummy suit burka, to tell you the truth I wouldn't stop because the wearing of such does not indicate "muslim", but "fundie", and I'd worry that being a male and all, she would get in trouble lest I help her. I don't think we are really talking "Islamophobia" here, but reaction to a particular manifestation of Islam. The fact a person might find Landover babtist loathesome beyond belief does not indicate "christianophobia", and neither does the rejection of extreme forms of Islam. |

Table 1 - Hate Crime Statistics, 2006 Anti-Jewish hate crime offenses outnumber Anti-Muslim hate crime offenses by a factor of over 6. When can I expect a special on "Judeo-phobia"? ![]() Quote:
"Islamophobia" has nothing of the sort. "Homophobia" is very real. Don't even try to compare the two. I would put forth that "Islamophobia" is actually more real than the "War on Christianity" that many Christians complain about. Perhaps you could compare "Islamophobia" to what some Christians pretend is "War on Christianity"? Last edited by foundit66; 03-13-2008 at 02:15 PM. |

Killing someone with a butterknife is real, too...But that doesn't mean you should accuse everyone whose holding a butterknife of attempting murderer... My point was that they're made out to be greater of an issue than it really is because people who criticize Islam or homosexuality...NOMATTER WHAT...are labeled as "phobes"... And that stifles actual debate... If someone says "I hate those damn dirty Muslims and they should all die", that's Islamophobia... But of someone says "I believe there is a large segment of the Muslim community that wishes death on non-Muslims and support acts of terrorism on a scale that is hundreds of times greater than any other, race, nation, or religion.", they will STILL be called an Islamophobe even though the told an absolute truth... And people who call the latter person an Islamophobe automatically negate the statement and refuse to discuss it... It's just so much easier to label...people who state the latter get GROUPED with the people who state the former...And that's insulting and offensive... ![]()

I have come across this on multiple message boards, and it's laughable each time I see it. It typically carries the same trade-mark signature. Often, when somebody starts complaining about the "homophobe" label, it's often done out of the blue. But the accusation comes out that "everyone whose holding a butterknife" is called a homophobe. And typically the accusation comes without even trying to evaluate the veracity of the assessment. In other words, it doesn't even try to evaluate how many of those accusations are actually going to people who are holding BLOODY butterknives... When I have actually researched the issue, I found that in comparing use of the label, there are MORE examples of complaints about people USING the term than there are examples of people ACCUSING another with the term. By far... (And that's not even getting into whether or not the assessment was accurate.) And often, the complaint is not preceded by the use of the term. And the "pro-gay" people using the term in their post is predominated because they are responding to others COMPLAINING about the use, and not because they used it inappropriately themselves. Take for example this attempt. Nobody was even talking about homophobes. But you go ahead and start complaining about it. I would be interested if you could show me anybody on this message board who has been over-zealous in applying the term. But still you bring it up. To sum it up, there are more complaints about "accusing everyone who..." than there is actually a reality of people "accusing everyone who..." I don't take the term lightly. I don't use the term lightly. Most people don't. But that doesn't stop some people from complaining about it a lot, exaggerating the problem above and beyond the reality. Oh wait. Is THAT supposed to be the analogy? People like you COMPLAINING about overuse of the "homophobe" term is like people complaining about prejudice against Islam? That makes better sense... Quote:
I still think the "War on Christianity" example is better, cause you got people who are willing to throw that accusation around at the drop of the hat. We've got numerous examples of that in the press, and on Fox News. Like O'Reilly complaining about the neutering of "Christmas", as his own web-site advertises "Holiday Ornaments" instead of "Christmas ornaments". I can quote you examples on this message board as well if you like. Perhaps it's just an over-sensitivity when it comes to religion, and an incapability to accept that they aren't quite as persecuted as they like to pretend to be... And the Jews don't like the Muslims. But then the media is trying to create a false image of "Islamophobia"... And they create no such discussion for themselves, even though they are victimized a lot more in hate crimes ... Oy vey! Those sneaky Jooos are so sneaky and complex! My head hurts! < end sarcasm > Oh well. The people who would do best to think about such things are weeks off this board (thankfully!), and they wouldn't have known what to do with the above anyways... |

Instead of just using the term "homophobe", we went above and beyond that and went straight to "hatemonger"... ![]() Quote:

But hate?...Not what I've seen... But they got labeled as "hatemongers" anyway... ![]()
