It’s too early to tell if this was just an ordinary mugging, or a politically-motivated assault. However, in light of the above, and given the right’s history of violence, repeated death threats and stalking aginst people they don’t like, I would not be surprised in the least if this was caused by someone from the Unhinged Wingnut Brigade in an effort to shut her up.

Of course, this guy's just PRAYING for it to be some lunatic Conservative so he(she) has something to hang his(her?) hat on...

One thing though...

Air America host Randi Rhodes wasn't mugged

Fellow host Jon Elliott claimed on the liberal radio network that Rhodes had been mugged while walking her dog, Simon, on Sunday night. Elliot, who said Rhodes lost several teeth in the attack, waxed about a possible conspiracy.

"Is this an attempt by the right-wing, hate machine to silence one of our own?" he asked on the air, according to Talking Radio, a blog. "Are we threatening them? Are they afraid that we’re winning? Are they trying to silence intimidate us?"

A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said.

Rhodes' lawyer told the Daily News she was injured in a fall while walking her dog. He said she's not sure what happened, and only knows that she fell down and is in a lot of pain. The lawyer said Rhodes expects to be back on the air Thursday. He stressed there is no indication she was targeted or that she was the victim of a "hate crime."

While I agree this is rephrensible and I am thinking

for this blatant juvenile crap, I see another issue at work here.

Look at what was actually said:

All of this is phrased as questions. Not statements of fact.
And while I hold by my above statements that this is pure crap, I also need to point out that this is a GROWING TREND among pseudo journalism reporting to JUST ASK HYPOTHETICAL QUESTIONS and pretend news is being reported.

It's just not this guy that does it.
It's also been noted on right-wing news sources.
And left or right, this crap should not be tolerated.

Asking such hypothetical questions is more the venue of a defense lawyer in a court of law, who would presumably have to show a foundation for his arguments.
A defense lawyer is SUPPOSED to work off of reasonable doubt.
The news media is SUPPOSED to report FACTS that they have researched, verified, and documented.

The news media (or pundits pretending thereof) should not use such sophomoric attempts to imply a truth that they have no basis for.

(And that is obviously in addition to the whole problem with accusing a general group of people for a crime that never happened.)

Agreed, but this goes one step further...

You are saying that the innuendo is offensive, and done on both sides...I agree...

But what is stated in these to statement is BLATANT misreading of facts...

Either he saw(heard) the report and propagated it as fact...or he made it out to appear so...

Probably the former, but this is still clear...

By him narrowing it down to either "ordinary mugging" and "politically motivated assault", the third option was entirely discarded...

The truth...
