Should we blame it on the Massa Moment?

Will that Hindenburg performance soon be seen as the turning point for Glenn Beck: the pivotal moment when the Fox News show began to permanently leak viewers?

Who can forget the March day that will live in cable news infamy, when Beck invited embattled Democratic Congressman Eric Massa onto his show, for an entire hour, to blow the whistle on Democratic Party corruption? Or so Beck thought. Instead, Massa went on and on about tickle fights, and Beck became a laughing stock -- the butt of endless Geraldo-opens-Al-Capone's-vault jokes.

Prior to the Massa Moment, Glenn Beck was averaging 2.6 million viewers each week, and the show was still flying high. And in the short term, the wildly hyped Massa episode produced ratings gold, generating 3.4 million viewers that night, thank you very much. Long-term though, the effects have proven to be disastrous.

As I noted two weeks ago, Glenn Beck's ratings are down this spring. Now it's clear those declines are accelerating and there are no signs of a rebound. So what does that mean for Beck, Fox News, and the Tea Party movement?

First, the latest Nielsen low: Glenn Beck just posted another ratings low for this year. The new mark was set last Thursday when the show attracted 1.82 million viewers. The host's previous, non-vacation low for 2010 had been 1.97 million viewers. That low-ebb mark was set on April 9.
If I tried to sell people an idea of Richard Simmons doing a political show, it should make people laugh.
But that's pretty much what Glenn Beck does...

I seriously hope people are wising up on him...

Glenn Beck could lose 2/3 of his audience and still have more people watching that Kieth Oberman; Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow combined.

First, the REASON it was so high in-Mid March was because the healthcare bill votes were coming up...It would non-sensical to think that EVERYONE'S ratings weren't peaking at that time...

Second, this article (by a Media Matters staffer by way of Huffington ) should've waited a week...

Here's what Beck's rating were for the first 3 days this week...

April 28...

Quote:
5PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Glenn Beck – 2,262,000 viewers (689,000) (1,060,000)
Situation Room—543,000 viewers (141,000) (268,000)
Hardball w/ C. Matthews – 523,000 viewers (122,000) (218,000)
Fast Money – 207,000 viewers (53,000) (91,000)
Showbiz Tonight —181,000 viewers (73,000) (93,000)
April 27...

Quote:
5PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Glenn Beck – 2,343,000 viewers (645,000) (1,117,000)
Situation Room—617,000 viewers (183,000) (246,000)
Hardball w/ C. Matthews – 599,000 viewers (151,000) (238,000)
Goldman Hearings – 481,000 viewers (115,000) (173,000)
Showbiz Tonight —195,000 viewers (101,000) (102,000)
April 26...

Quote:
5PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Glenn Beck – 2,456,000 viewers (745,000) (1,223,000)
Situation Room—617,000 viewers (155,000) (235,000)
Hardball w/ C. Matthews – 546,000 viewers (150,000) (238,000)
Fast Money – 208,000 viewers (a scratch w/50,000) (75,000)
Showbiz Tonight —220,000 viewers (64,000) (86,000)
My trusty calculator says that's an average of 2,353,666.66 viewers this week so far...

That's averaging over 1/2 MILLION viewers since the sky was apparently falling and Media Matters was frothing last Thursday...

Maybe this thread should be re-titled "Beck had a bad week but that's about it"...

This is how bad Media Matters sucks...I don't even WATCH Glenn Beck but feel compelled to point this stuff out because Media Matters is so terrible and biased at reporting...If they had Helen Keller on their staff it would be an upgrade...

There are over 300 million people in our country. That means Beck has less then a 1% viewership. Thats how my calculator works. The NFL draft had 7.2 million viewers. Pawn Stars had 5 million viewers. So I guess they kicked Becks ass.

Does the NFL have more viewers than the news does?
It's a sad commentary on our country.

Since Media Matters sucks and sucks hard, I said to myself, "Self?...I wonder if the OTHER media outlets were doing as bad as Beck and if they were, why didn't Media Matters report THAT part?"...

So I checked last Thursday's ratings...here they are...

Quote:
5PM – P2+ (25-54) (35-64)
Glenn Beck – 1,818,000 viewers (413,000) (834,000)
Situation Room—442,000 viewers (147,000) (203.,000)
Hardball w/ C. Matthews – 464,000 viewers (95,000) (198,000)
Fast Money– 214,000 viewers (a scratch w/50,000) (75,000)
Showbiz Tonight —268,000 viewers (109,000) (151,000)
Now on Monday Beck had 2,456,000 viewers. That means that on the previous Thursday, Beck had 26% less viewers...Sounds bad doesn't it?...

But look the NEXT most popular show...The Situation Room...

On Monday they had 617,000 viewers...But on the same Thurday Media Matters pointed out Beck's drop, The Situation Room had only 442,000 viewers...

Wanna know what my trusty calculator says the loss percentage was for The Situation Room while Beck was losing 26%...

TWENTY-NINE PERCENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right...The CNN show did WORSE than Beck, but Media Matters didn't think that part was worthy...They didn't even mention it for comparison's sake (Sunlight is the best disinfectant, ya know)...

Shall I continue?...

The 3rd most popular in that time slot...Chris Matthews...

On Monday, Captain Leg-thriller had 546,000 viewers...Last Thursday, during the fabled "BeckDeathWatch", he only had 464,000 viewers...

Trusty calc comes back with a drop of 15%...Not as bad as Beck and the Situation Room, but I highly doubt his advertisers are dancing in the streets either on those numbers...

So while Media Matters want everyone to believe it's all about Beck, this data actually shows two points...

1) All top three shows were down...That means that OVERALL viewers (Not just Becks's) were led elsewhere because something else interesting was going on in the world or there simply weren't any political "ratings-grabbers" to discuss...

2) One of these top three shows actually did worse than Beck did, yet Media Matters couldn't find time in their schedule to point that out...

In the Tips for Debate, I specifically pointed out Media Matters for a reason...They suck...

I wrote those tips a long time ago, and I see that the leopard hasn't changed its spots...
