Prosecutor: Bolger conspired with party switcher, but didn't break law
This is what is wrong with politics today. So much of what these politicians do on both the state and federal level would be illegal in the private sector, but these bozo's don't live by the same rules as we mere peons..........
Quote:
Lansing— Republican House Speaker Jase Bolger conspired with a Grand Rapids legislator who switched parties to plant a fake Democrat on the ballot to "undermine the election," according to Kent County Prosecutor Bill Forsyth.
In a scathing eight-page report released Tuesday afternoon, Forsyth concluded Bolger and state Rep. Roy Schmidt broke no law when they schemed to give Schmidt an easy pathway to re-election.
State Rep. Roy Schmidt, who switched from a Democrat to a Republican moments before the May 15 filing deadline, had his son offer a 22-year-old friend $450 to run against his dad as a Democrat, according to the report.
Forsyth's investigation, in cooperation with the Michigan State Police, unearthed text messages between Bolger and Schmidt showing a coordinated effort to recruit a fake Democrat to run against Schmidt.
"Although this scheme by Rep. Schmidt and Speaker Bolger was clearly designed to undermine the election and to perpetrate a 'fraud' on the electorate, it was nonetheless legal," Forsyth wrote. "… Incredibly, while it would be illegal to pay a boxer to take a 'dive' or a basketball player to 'point shave,' it is not currently a crime in Michigan to recruit someone to run for public office, place them on the ballot at the 'eleventh hour' and essentially pay them to make no effort to win."

If either party had any integrity these bozos would be forced to leave office tomorrow, and repay any money they earned while in office.
