Default Raul Castro, Former Arizona Governor, Detained At Border Checkpoint

Quote:

PHOENIX -- Former Arizona Gov. Raul Castro, who in the 1970s served as the state's first and only Hispanic governor, was detained at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint after the vehicle he was traveling in triggered a radiation sensor.

Castro said agents questioned him outside his vehicle in 100-degree heat. He said he explained to them that he had undergone hospital testing on his pacemaker the previous day, likely triggering the sensor.

Castro told The Associated Press on Thursday that he believed the stop was prompted by a monitor being set off, not on his appearance.

"I don't think being Hispanic had anything to do with it," Castro said. He said he was detained for 40 to 45 minutes; the federal agency said it lasted 10 minutes.

The former governor downplayed the detention, noting that he wasn't pleased with the way he was treated but didn't file a complaint. He said that he understands Border Patrol agents are "there to do a job" but that they need a better system for dealing with elderly people. He said he was exposed to the sun during part of the questioning.

"Once I identified myself, who I was, and that I had been to the doctor, I was under medical care, I have a pacemaker on my heart, (I would have thought) that they would have been more considerate and said, `Keep on going.' But that didn't happen," Castro said.
Some police are very good with the elderly or people with medical problems. Others are d-heads.

I don't really want them to be good with medical problems. Because, they can never be good enough to render a judgement is such cases.

They should be polite, and considerate, but above all vigilante. Remember, they are made aware of threats to which we are not privy.

The proper course of action here I think, would be to advise people who have undergone such tests to forgo intentional travel for a few days.

Close our freedoms for a couple of paranoid cops?

decriminalize some of these drugs and put strict ---eye balls in the room/feet on the ground--regs on these gun shops that sell better weapons to drug lords than coos can afford.
And while you're at it pluck the NRA; they'll get over it.
Save lives and freedom.
You're welcome.

As per the OP...

I'll take "paranoid cops" over "thousands dead due to a dirty bomb" any day when a radiation sensor goes off...That doesn't even make the cops paranoid...It makes them vigilant...

Why are they paranoid? They have to deal with people who will kill to sell their wares.
How do I figure they are paranoid?
After he explained things they still acted like stinkers. Common sense goes out the window with paranoid reaction.

salty's dream:
"Officer, I just got out of the hospital for a thyroid condition where I got exposed to lots of radiation as part of the treatment. That's all you're picking up, no "dirty bomb" making materials here, just little old me and what's left of my thyroid."

"Go on through, son. We all know you've had a hard day already, so we won't bother you any more."

Then reality rears it's ugly head:
"Today a "dirty bomb was detonated in the heart of Los Angeles. Immediate deaths are in the hundreds, but officials estimate that the long term effects will result in thousands of deaths from radiation poisoning and cancer. Early reports indicate that the bomber had recently entered the country and was detained for less than two minutes after giving the excuse that he had recently received radiation treatment for a thyroid condition. causing a radiation detector to be triggered. BP officials have reported that the agent responsible was trying to be compassionate and allowed the man through due to his self-reported medical condition."
