Default Judge Rules Anti-Worker Bill Passed Illegally

Let Freedom Ring!

Quote:
oday Dane County Judge MaryAnn Sumi ruled that the union busting bill was passed illegally by Scott Walker and Senate Republicans. This morning Sumi issued a permanent injunction barring the implementation of the “budget repair bill” which strips hundreds of thousands of public employees of their voice on the job.
Judge Rules Anti-Worker Bill Passed Illegally - Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Blog
Quote:
Sumi ruled that there is “clear and convincing” evidence that the Open Meetings Law was violated. To pass a bill in a Joint Committee of Conference, 24 hours notice must be given to both Representatives and the public.
Quote:
Sumi notes that “the purpose of the Open Meetings Law is to protect all citizens’ rights to be informed to the fullest extent concerning the affairs of their government. Transparency in government is most important when the stakes are high.”

Key words...

Quote:
was passed illegally
In other words, the only reason it was declared unlawful was the PROCEDURE in which it was passed, not because the law ITSELF was unconstitutional...

The obvious thing that's gonna happen is a re-vote...The Republican leadership will simply call for a vote and wait longer than 24 hours before the actual vote takes place...It'll pass and we're all good...

In fact, I'm surprised this wasn't done already...If I were Walker, I wouldn't have bothered to wait for the ruling...

The one problem I see will be the same problem from the start...the Dems in Wisconsin will see the notice on the vote and scamper like the fleebaggers they are back to Illinois to sip iced tea by the pool instead of doing their job...THAT should be fun...

The Open Meetings law is a pretty important procedure isn't it? It gives a chance for citizen participation and involvement rather than government officials secretly forcing legislation through...

(and don't go dissing fleabaggers!)

Then this thread should interest you greatly. If transparency is so vital, lets include the actions at the top.

Sure - if legislation is being passed.

But that is another topic. In fact - isn't this a bit like bringing up Christian misbehavior when Muslim misbehavior isdiscussed?

Yes they tried to ram it through without the proper procedure that takes the citizenry into consideration. That's called a dictatorship or an oligarchy...

And then the voters will get rid of the guys who are voting their own pocket book instead of the people's interest. That should be fun also.

Transparency in gov't is the issue. If transparency is important at the state level, isn't it more important at the Federal level??? If something is occurring that could infringe on our rights, then shouldn't it be done publically?? Put aside the partisanship and look at the core issue that you brought up so well.

Same question I asked Coyote:

If transparency is so important, then shouldn't you be all over this???
