Trump’s fresh attacks on Georgia election workers could land him in legal trouble, expert says

Former president Donald Trump’s fresh attacks towards a Georgia election worker could yet land him in further legal trouble, according to one expert.

Mr Trump has used his social media platform, Truth Social, to fuel conspiracy theories aimed at Georgia official Ruby Freeman – who has been a repeated subject of the former president’s attacks since the 2020 election.

In his latest posts, Mr Trump made several allegations and claimed there were “contradictions” in her testimony to the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot.

While Mr Trump repeatedly attacked Ms Freeman and her daughter Shaye Mose – two Black women – in the past, this time his posts could have more serious ramifications, according to Lisa Rubin, a legal analyst with MSNBC.

Ms Rubin wrote on Twitter that Mr Trump can be sued by Ms Freeman for defamation since he no longer has presidential immunity. Ms Freeman has already filed lawsuits against several conservatives.

“When Trump last went after Freeman, he was still president. And therefore, had she sued him for defamation, he could have raised the same defense — as POTUS, I’m immune to tort suits! — he did to Carroll’s initial claims. Whether that defense flies is still being litigated,” Ms Rubin wrote in a twitter thread.

Imagine if America's debt went down $10 for every article...from (get ready!) a legal analyst with the media...that was previously wrong...

We'd be debt free!!!!...

Still, People came to her house and threatened her because of Trump's lies. Trump lying is one thing but he has a following of people who believe him. That's an issue.

When you begin to address Biden's lies with the same vigor, (you know, the guy currently holding the office), you may be taken more seriously.

So Trump lies about an old woman and puts her in danger and your answer is Biden? Maybe wait until you have been awake for a while before posting.

Just playing the same game you play in every other thread. I see you don't care for this tactic when it is thrown back at you.

Do you want to comment on what Trump did to this woman. That is what the thread is about.

Your understanding of the first amendment is as faulty as your hatred for President Trump is strong. A so-called legal analyst posts a wish on social media that the Bad Orange man might be sued for an opinion about someone's testimony before Congress, it makes you giddy. Freedom of speech? That's for comrades who tout the party line. In Biden's America questioning his election gets you a war crimes special counsel assigned to silence the critic.

Ever heard of a hecklers veto? That's when the government curtails speech using the anticipated reaction of someone as a pretext for the repression. Assuming for the moment your claim that someone threatened the election worker, as usual no link is provided, blaming Trump's criticism for the legal violations of others smacks of a hecklers veto. As we have seen with the release of the Twitter files Federal law enforcement has no hesitation imposing a hecklers veto of its own choosing using sympathetic social media companies as proxies. Worse the FBI now routinely stages late night raids by heavily armed teams on the homes of political enemies.

Of course it's all good as long as it serves the Marxist Democrat interests. Naturally besieging a SCOTUS Justice's family home and even a self confessed assassin traveling across the country to target his prey can never be attributed to the vitriol spewed by Democrats in reaction to a SCOTUS decision or the lie that abortion had been banned. But the Bad Orange man perceiving inconsistencies in testimony before the select lynch mob is a problem.
