Default Unequal justice for James Comey

The inspector general's report found numerous and substantial rules violations by former FBI director James Comey. But don't worry.

Quote:
Mr. Comey reportedly broke several rules for which he will not be prosecuted. He took home memos detailing private meetings he had with the president and then disclosed their contents to a friend who he believed would leak them to The New York Times. His motivation was to make sure a special counsel would be appointed to investigate alleged “collusion” between Russia and the Trump campaign.

The Justice Department decided not to prosecute Mr. Comey, citing a lack of evidence that he “knew and intended to violate laws on handling classified information.” As FBI director, how could he not know of these things? Of course he had to know. If you think this mirrors Mr. Comey’s explanation of why Hillary Clinton would not be held legally accountable for her mishandling of classified information, you would be right. At the time, Mr. Comey said Hillary Clinton did not “intend to break the law.”
That's right, the FBI director didn't know or didn't "intend" to break the rules. As fantastic as it seems one of the top law enforcement officials in the Federal government can break the rules with no fear of prosecution. Worse, Comey bragged to Congress his intention in leaking the memos was to get a special counsel appointed to pursue the Russian collusion witch hunt.

Quote:
The inspector general noted: “By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employee, and the many thousands more former FBI employees, who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information.”
Of course there are also hundreds of thousands if not millions of inmates who would claim a similar lack of intent but they won't benefit from the generous treatment afforded Comey.

I've heard/read two different theories...Don't know if either is valid...

1) If the DoJ indicted, it would have to be in Washington D.C, which is overwhelmingly Liberal. There would be a risk of losing the case based on partisan bias and leaving the D0J with major egg on their face...

2) Bigger fish to fry...Why go after Comey for what would be wristslaps, when the FISA Abuse report from the Inspector General is still forthcoming?...

Prosecuting Comey for more serious crimes such as lying to the FISA court to get a warrant for secret surveillance would have to take place in DC as well. The same left wing bias would come into play. Comey and the other members of the Resistance cabal may have effective immunity but hopefully not.

Perhaps I am old fashioned but an indictment of an FBI director for leaking to the media for political ends ought to condemn him as disgraced and send a message to others in Federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies tempted to play politics with their authority. As it stands now Comey gets to parade around playing the victim demanding an apology. Resistance Democrats and media toadies echo his sob story even as they shamelessly pursue President Trump despite the lack of any indictments for Russian collusion from the Mueller witchhunt.

The build up of the IG reports on Obama administration political repression is identical to what was said about the special counsel's report before it was released. Horowitz is supposed to be someone of unquestioned integrity as is the current AG but so was Comey before he gave Hillary a pass. We are supposed to be reassured that the next IG report will be devastating for those who attempted to undermine the Trump campaign and then usurp his election but we have heard this story before. Keep waiting in hopes the next election will bring a Democrat President who will end the investigation while opening criminal prosecution of Trump.

PLEEEEZE TELL ME THIS THREAD IS A JOKE.

It would be hard to imagine that anyone would compare the rules, policies, and procedures imposed by an enterprise, agency, institution that are only applicable to the employees of the enterprise, agency, or institution and enforced by the enterprise, agency, and institution with....

Laws imposed by the authority of our government and that are enforced by our criminal justice system.

Comey violated rules that didn't violate the law. His release of his memo on his discussion with Trump over Flynn was after he no longer worked for the FBI and didn't even violate it's rules that no longer applied to him.

Criminals serving time in prison violated the law and not rules, policies, or procedures imposed by an enterprise, agency, or institution.

Surely not even a "Republican" can be that ignorant of the differences between "rules" and "laws" in America.

Based upon the corruption, brutality, inhumanity, immorality, dishonesty, and incompetence of the Trump administration the White House is the dirtiest house in America and there's no known cleanser that with remove the stains of the Trump Administration.

There's no evidence that the over 100 page filing for surveillance of Carter Page for authorization by the FISA court contained any misrepresentations. Comey wasn't even personally responsible for the contents of the application although he was one of the officials that signed off on it along with other top officials in the FBI and DOJ.

Comey was no longer working for the FBI when he leaked unclassified information on his personal meeting with President Trump reflecting Trump's attempt to obstruct justice in an ongoing criminal investigation of Michael Flynn. Leaking information about attempted criminal obstruction of justice by a President is NOT Political.
