True Crime

Video shows Park Police fired nine shots into Bijan Ghaisar’s Jeep at close range, killing him

By Tom Jackman January 24 at 5:29 PM

Fairfax County Police released video on Jan. 24 of U.S. Park Police chasing Bijan Ghaisar's vehicle on Nov. 17 and firing shots. Ghaisar, 25, later died. (Fairfax County Police Dept.)

Two U.S. Park Police officers stood within close range of Bijan C. Ghaisar as he sat behind the wheel of his stopped Jeep Grand Cherokee, then fired nine shots into his vehicle as it slowly veered into a ditch away from the officers, a video recording of the Nov. 17 incident released Wednesday shows.

In the moments before he was shot, there also does not appear to be any interaction with or provocation by Ghaisar, whose window remained closed. His Jeep began to move slowly forward again after stopping, the video shows, sparking the first set of five shots. When the Jeep drifted forward four seconds later, the officers fired two more times at close range. When it drifted again 11 seconds later, the officers fired a final two shots, the video shows.

In the beginning of this video, the P. Police stops gets out as he drives off slowly while the P. Police drops something.. Bet the Park Office is angry by now and that guided what went into the rest.

Thanks for showing the entire video. It clearly exhibits what actually happened and debunks the reporters statements.

To Wi;
"In the moments before he was shot, there also does not appear to be any interaction with or provocation by Ghaisar, whose window remained closed. "

There appears to be two minutes of attempts by the police to pull Ghaisar over without harm to him or his vehicle. 3 times he was at a stop with officers exposed to danger by a suspect who would not cooperate. And high speed chases in residential neighborhoods endangering residents and officerc alike.

I would call that Interaction. and Provocation

When Ghaiser made his third attempt to again endanger the public and the officers, he quite clearly indicated that he would not be taken without a struggle.

Given the situation and resources apparently at hand, Police cars (3?) Officers (5 or so) and guns) the options to do their duty with respect to public safety, are limited. There is a time when you protect the public at the expense of those who would endanger them. And what point in the midnight chase should the officers make the choice to go lethal?

And I say all of this not even knowing why they were chasing Ghaiser, in the first place. A missing fact that could have serious bearing on the LEO's decision to employ lethality.

We ask our police to do a lot for comparatively low pay and bad press to boot. How about we give these officers a bit of a break, at least until we find out all the facts that matter.

BTW, I take issue with your comment "Man this tough response by most Law enforcement is getting out of hand.. IMHO"

Most of our law enforcement never have to pull their weapons. But more and more they will as our nation's citizens more and more disrespect the authority and obligations of our LEO's.

I don't believe that failure to stop for armed thugs warrants execution.

You are Damn right! When you hear stories like this or watch videos of police gunning down unarmed innocent people, well there are only so many excuses you can accept by the police before you start to realize that something is just fundamentally wrong in our society when it comes to the militirization of police and how they view their jobs. Or maybe it's us? Have we grown too violent? How can we expect the police to not be scared and treat us all like enemys when guns are so easily acquired. Maybe the two things are related? And we will never solve one without the other. I don't know.

Of course not. No rational sane person would think that. I mean, the dukes of Hazzard county never got gunned down.

You take issues with what I said yet not with this comment above right after my post..

The guy wasn't even making it a dangerous chase.. What you avoid is reality.. Having a badge means making important decisions, not snap judgements like pulling a gun and taking a life as done here..

Man one has to stop cuddling and make these police officers understand they are to protect life as much as possible..

And if your going to rant again I don't want to read it.. Your a loose cannon..
