Angry Arizona cop is cleared of murder after fatally shooting unarmed man

This is why so many people hate cops; when law enforcement officers kill someone they are often held to a different standard than when a civilian kills someone. This father was unarmed and complying with the uniformed thug's instructions. The cop murdered him anyway and wasn't convicted of this murder. This is as much a miscarriage of justice as the verdict in the recent Katie Steinle case.

Quote:
A former Arizona cop was cleared of murder on Thursday in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man who cried and begged police not to pull the trigger just moments before he was killed.

The verdict cleared Philip Mitchell Brailsford, 27, of criminal liability in the death of Daniel Shaver, a married father-of-two from Granbury, Texas.

The shooting occured in January 2016, after police responded to reports that someone in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa was pointing a gun out the window of La Quinta Inn.

Shaver was unarmed, although police later found two pellet rifles related to his pest-control job inside his hotel room.

Newly-released body camera footage shows responding officers screaming at Shaver to exit his hotel room, lay face-down in the hallway, and refrain from making sudden movements.

The graphic video shows Shaver complying with orders to crawl towards the officers when Brailsford fires his rifle.

The former cop said he believed Shaver was grabbing a handgun in his waistband.

A detective investigating the shooting said while it may have looked as if Shaver were reaching for a gun, it also appeared that he was pulling up his loose-fitting basketball shorts that had fallen down when he was ordered to crawl.

The officers could have simply handcuffed Shaver while he was on the floor, the detective added.

If the officer was reasonably in fear of his life I believe in AZ he was justified to shoot him. Of course I don't think a well trained officer should fire until he is sure of the threat. But yea, in AZ I think it would be a clean shooting.

If some d**kh**d with a badge is in fear for his life, then maybe he needs to find another job. It is my unwavering opinion that most police officers nowadays have the training of an organ grinder's monkey.

What if it wasn't a police officer? Just some good guy with a gun.

Then he would have been convicted of murder, just like that cop should have been.

Even if he could reasonably argue he was in fear of his life?

Some "good guy with a gun" is not going to play "cop" and tell another guy to come out and lie down on the ground. However, a good guy with a gun is a d**kh**d if he unlawfully shoots another person.

A million to one says these modern day Barney Fifes are taught by some other Rambotito instructor to act lightning fast against ANY perceived threat to their candy asses. The days of real police officers are fading fast.

Others may go on defending these dumbasses. I will continue to back up only professional officers.

In Arizona you can kill someone if you are in fear of your life. It is the law. It is very possible it was not unlawful.

This is one example of why I have problems with such phrasing in the law.
Self-defense is understandable, when there is actually a threat.
Ignoring the validity of the threat and allowing some idiot with a gun to just think there is a threat is good enough? That's just plain wrong.
That very type of phrasing means a person panicking means justifiable homicide...

Note: I'm not saying people with guns are idiots. I'm saying that there are some individuals who own guns who lack common sense to tell the difference.
And in such cases, a jury or judge should be able to review the circumstances and judge accordingly.
