Obama denies US creating military bases in Colombia

This article explains a lot.
So this is just the American (and other interested parties) media doing their spin again.
God I wish we had some real news in this country. And real journalists.

The new security arrangement would allow the Pentagon to lease access to seven Colombian military bases for U.S. support in fighting drug traffickers and guerrillas involved in the cocaine trade.
Still establishing a foothold, it seems, regardless of what article one reads.

Yeah, it appears that may be just a loophole, to say the Pentagon is leasing access to bases in Colombia doesn't quite sound as bad as outright building new bases. Needless to say, I am strongly opposed to US military expansionism around the world, which seems to cause a great deal of hostility from some countries. As a result, US citizens are less safe; and of course, the events of September 11 prove that quite well.

Ron Paul has a gift of common sense that most politicians lack. I may not agree with all his viewpoints, but I like his ideas about US foreign policy. :thumbsup

I have a great respect for Ron Paul. we used to live in the same county, and he was my cousin's doctor. I am in favor of a good many of his views.

But what I'm saying in relation to the Americas is we used to have a presence in these countries and we pulled out thinking they should be left to do their own thing. In other words- been there done that.
It seems they're susceptible to a lot more than just puppet dictators and the puppet dictators are bad enough. When we were 13 colonies we were smart enough to have a precense at our southern border (Florida). And we would be smart to see first hand what the hay is going on today in places so adjacent to our home.
