Default Kurds pull back from ISIS fight in Syria, saying U.S. ‘let us down’

Every top US general in the Middle East warned this might happen. Now it has. Blame Erdogan first, but the tRUmp admins insistence on coddling Turkey just cost CENTCOM/SOF their best fighting partner in the region.

The SDF withdrawal was a direct result of Kurdish frustration with the recent American rapprochement with Turkey and the lack of support Washington has given to the Kurds in their fight against Turkish troops in Afrin, according to Aldar Xelil, a senior official with the self-proclaimed Kurdish-led administration governing northeastern Syria.

“The international coalition let us down,” he said in an interview over Skype. “They did not do what we expected them to do for us after a very long partnership.”

“We are allies. The Americans should have helped us. We were allies for a very long time,” he added. “For one and a half months we have been under attack by Turkey. Turkey is using NATO weapons to attack an American ally. We were partners in the fight against [the Islamic State], and they did not do anything to help us.”

You mean to say that the U.S. didn't fully support the Kurds... again.
the Kurd's are Charlie Brown and the U.S. is Lucy with a football.
When it comes to allies in the middle east for the past 75 years the U.S. is flicked and dishonorable to everyone but Israel and the Saudis... so far.

No Kurd should have been surprised by this.

The ongoing U.S. support of the Turks who are supporting Isis against Assad. And reports of U.S. troop arming and training Rebel...Isis fighters against Assad. and Israel firing rockets at Assad... not Isis.
the Kurds never really had a chance. They are begin played by the U.S. and will likely get nothing out of their sacrificial actions against terrorist to secure a NON-Shria Syria or possibly their own homeland.

the recent activity has spanned 3 presidents, not just Trump.
though Trump did promise he was going really fight isis terror and support those who do.
But in his 1st few months ended up firing rockets at Isis?.. uh no... at Syrian airbases that are fighting Isis. go figure.

From January 18, 2018...Less than two months ago...And even friggin' al Jazeera sees it...

Is Trump 'playing with fire' by backing Kurds in Syria?

Quote:
US support for Kurds in Syria is leading to threats of retaliation from Turkey.

A coalition of countries led by the US is planning a 30,000-strong force in Syria, just across the border with Turkey.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan thinks the Kurdish-led force is a threat and is vowing to attack the city of Afrin in northern Syria.

Afrin is a major stronghold of YPG Kurdish fighters. Turkey considers the YPG a "terrorist" group linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Its PKK fighters have waged a long war against Turkish dominance.
What this "Aldar Xelil, a senior official with the self-proclaimed Kurdish-led administration governing northeastern Syria" is saying is nothing more than HIS OPINION...

Whether or not Trump's help IS ENOUGH can be held up to speculation...The fact that Trump IS helping the Kurds is NOT up for speculation...It's a fact...

..but, as usual, all it takes is one dissenter of Trump and wham-o...Storytime...

.... Great post..

I was waiting for something like this when Erdogan started to twist Turkey freedoms and cuddle America so he can get his way ... Playing both sides plus a few we might not be aware of. Typical M.E. Powerman

Yep. I worried about this to my dad (who actually jumped into Turkey with SETAF in the early 70's to protect our embassy). He reminded me that the same thing always happens to these strongman dictators when they've worn out their usefullness. See Hussein and Gaddafi for instance.

Might be so but today we have plenty of these 'want to be dictators' ready to step up as a replacement.

Evil is on the way seeking power...

that's part of the problem. the U.S. decides when a foreign leader is "USEFUL" to the western powers and then when they aren't the U.S. sets about to smear and destroy. Collateral damage to the people of the nation, their infrastructure, their national sovereignty and "freedom" be d@mned.

See Hussein and Gaddafi for instance. Neither of them were a threat to U.S.. militarily, but some in the Plutocracy felt they needed to go, for mainly various economic and geopolitical power reasons.
