for any Country to lose any number of people to any natural disaster.. Yet it seems to happen weekly all around our world.. I mean like that London High Rise Building that was in flames. Or the mud slides in S. America and now a landslide buried 120+ people while some were still alive.

Each life has an end date we know.. I just pray mine is while sleeping in my own bed...

Over 120 people buried by massive China landslide

In this photo released by China's Xinhua News Agency, emergency personnel work at the site of a landslide in Xinmo village in Maoxian County in southwestern China's Sichuan Province, Saturday, June 24, 2017.

Around 100 people are feared buried by a landslide that unleashed huge rocks and a mass of earth that crashed into their homes Saturday, a county government said. (He Qinghai/Xinhua via AP)

"It's the biggest landslide to hit this area since the Wenchuan earthquake," Wang Yongbo, an official leading one of the rescue efforts, told state broadcaster China Central Television. Wang was referring to China's deadliest earthquake this century, a magnitude 7.9 temblor that struck Sichuan province in May 2008, killing nearly 90,000 people.

The provincial government said more than 120 people were buried by the landslide. CCTV cited a rescuer as saying five bodies had been found.

Rescuers pulled out three people, two of whom had survived, the official Sichuan Daily newspaper said on its microblog. The paper also said a family of three, including a month-old baby, managed to escape just as the landslide started to hit their house.

GENEVA - The UN Human Rights Council on Thursday adopted a resolution proposed by China entitled "The Contribution of Development to the Enjoyment of All Human Rights," marking the first time that the UN rights body adopts a resolution on development issues.

The resolution recognizes the common aspiration of the international community of building a community of shared future for human beings and affirms that development contributes significantly to the enjoyment of all human rights.

It calls upon all countries to realize people-centred development of the people, by the people and for the people, and calls upon all States to enhance international cooperation and spare no effort in promoting sustainable development, in particular while implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as it is conducive to the overall enjoyment of human rights.

The resolution welcomes further efforts to promote development initiatives with the aim of promoting partnerships, win-win outcomes and common development.

The resolution was co-sponsored by more than 70 countries.

A while ago Trump was sending a warning to China over the latest missile test by the N. Koreans.
This is China's reply the usual stop the military exercises which every Communist Country seems to get upset about others doing it while they do their own provocative military exercises with the west.

China has a tree part peace plan. Which actually levels the playing field once again, and the North will just do as they have done before. Cheat and continue with their testing.

China warns rising tension with N Korea could be disastrous

China's U.N. ambassador warned Monday that further escalation of already high tensions with North Korea risks getting out of control, "and the consequences would be disastrous."

Liu Jieyi expressed hope that key nations will be "more forthcoming" and support China's three-part package to de-escalate tensions — revive negotiations and dialogue leading to denuclearization and peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

He reiterated at a news conference that an important initial proposal in the package is "suspension for suspension," which would see North Korea halt nuclear and missile testing and the United States and South Korea stop military exercises.

Fears of a conflict on the Korean Peninsula, which has been divided between the American-backed South and communist North since the 1950-53 Korean War, have escalated as the North's young leader, Kim Jong Un, has expanded a nuclear arsenal and developed ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear warheads. His government says these are needed to avert a U.S. invasion.

North Korea's U.N. Ambassador Kim In Ryong said last week that the more than 50-year confrontation between North Korea and the United States came closer to the brink of nuclear war than ever before when the U.S. and South Korea held what he called their largest-ever "aggressive" military exercises in April and May.

Watching the evening news yesterday I saw this and find it hard to believe only 56 people have died from the flooding.

China Suspends North Korea Flights and Closes Main Road Between Them amid Nuclear Tensions

John Haltiwanger, Newsweek•November 24, 2017

China further isolated North Korea on Friday by closing the main road between them just a few days after the state-owned airline Air China indefinitely suspended flights from Beijing to the reclusive country.

The China-North Korea Friendship Bridge is closed for "maintenance" and will be reopened once the necessary repairs are made, Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said, without offering a timeline. Meanwhile, the decision to suspend flights, announced Tuesday, was reportedly linked to a lack of demand. An official in the company’s Beijing-based press office, who refused to give a full name, simply told Reuters on Wednesday "business was not good" as he explained the decision.

China demands U.S. immediately withdraw N. Korea sanctions, warns they will damage ties

Simon Denyer August 23

BEIJING — China demanded Wednesday that the United States immediately withdraw new sanctions on companies and individuals trading with North Korea, saying that such punitive measures will damage Sino-U.S. ties.

The Treasury Department imposed sanctions Tuesday on 10 companies and six people from China and Russia that it said had conducted business with North Korea in ways that advanced the country’s missile and nuclear weapons program.

But China’s Foreign Ministry said its government had fully implemented U.N. Security Council resolutions on North Korea and would punish anyone caught violating the Security Council sanctions under Chinese law.

It added that it opposed sanctions outside the framework of the Security Council.

China-India border tension: Satellite imagery shows Doklam plateau build-up

By Jonathan Marcus Defence and diplomatic correspondent, Tel Aviv

This is an area of interim borders and unsettled claims. While tensions have calmed since the last stand-off on the Doklam plateau, along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) which ended in August of last year, both sides are continuing to build up their ground forces in this inhospitable terrain.

The plateau, which lies at a junction between China, the north-eastern Indian state of Sikkim and the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, is currently disputed between Beijing and Bhutan. India supports Bhutan's claim over it.

US geopolitical intelligence company Stratfor's images focus on the accompanying build-up in air power to support these units. The Stratfor analysis looks at four critical air bases, two Chinese and two Indian, that are within range of the Doklam plateau.

They say "the imagery confirms that both China and India are pursuing a wide-ranging strategic build-up that has only accelerated in the wake of the 27 August agreement".

On the Indian side of the border, imagery of the Siliguri Bagdogra air base and the Hasimara air force station shows how India has moved to reinforce its air power close to the Doklam plateau.

Siliguri Bagdogra normally hosts a transport helicopter unit while Hasimara was the base for MiG-27ML ground attack aircraft until they were retired at the end of 2017.

Chinese police are using smart glasses to identify potential suspects

Jon Russell.. Tech Crunch - February 8, 2018

China already operates the world's largest surveillance state with some 170 CCTV cameras at work, but its line of sight is about to get a new angle thanks to new smart eyewear that is being piloted by police officers.

The smart specs look a lot like Google Glass, but they are used for identifying potential suspects. The device connects to a feed which taps into China's state database to root out potential criminals using facial recognition. Officers can identify suspects in a crowd by snapping their photo and matching it to the database. Beyond a name, officers are also supplied with the person's address, according to the BBC.

Chinese state media reports that the technology has already facilitated the capture of seven individuals, while 35 others using fake IDs are said to have been found.

The glasses have been deployed in Zhengzhou, the capital of central province Henan, where it has been used to surveil those traveling by plane and train, according to the Wall Street Journal. With Chinese New Year, the world's largest human migration, coming later this month, you'd imagine the glasses could be used to surveil the hundreds of millions of people who travel the country, and beyond, for the holiday period.

China's has been criticized in many quarters for the way it uses its database, and facial recognition tech, in relation to ethnic minorities. A system deployed in Xinjiang -- a province with a population of some 10 million 'Uighur' Muslims, is reportedly designed to notify authorities when "target" individuals go beyond their home or place of work, according to Bloomberg.

Uighurs have been the targets of roving VPN crackdowns and smartphone confiscation. Back in 2010, the government shut the region's internet connect for a 10-month period following violence between Uighurs and Han Chinese.
