Since Latvia borders Lithuania, and they are part of the Baltic States then it seems on topic to me.

Plus, this idea goes back to Reagan. I found a 1981 article that gives a bit of backstory on the missle defence system in the Baltics.
Rumsfeld pushes U.S. missile plan
June 9, 2001 Posted: 10:19 AM EDT (1419 GMT)

TURKU, Finland -- U.S. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has been seeking support for America's missile plans among Nordic and Baltic defence ministers.

On the final stop of a seven-nation European tour, Rumsfeld met with the defence ministers of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Speaking in Finland on Saturday, Rumsfeld said an effective U.S. missile defence system cannot be built within the constraints of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty, a U.S. official told the Associated Press.

He repeated calls made to NATO defence chiefs and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov this week to join the Bush Administration in "a new architecture," including the controversial strategic missile defence plan.

They're next on the list. Didn't you hear?
After we get done with the deal with Lithuania, Latvia's next on our list of allies.

What in the world are you talking about?????
Latvia was US ally since the begining of Iraq war. They even sent some soldiers to Iraq.

Are you totally CLUELESS about Europe or what's the deal here?

...on our list of allies to place additional missile defense.

You are clueless about American history and current policy. You really need to watch more C-Span and less propaganda films if you want to keep up here.

Your questions were irrelevant to the discussion. You assumed that the threats exist, I assume nothing except that the threat may exist and we should be prepared to address it if it arises. Are there terrorists orgs. with this kind of ability? I don't know. Do you want to find out when a med. range missle lands a nuke in Russia or would you rather have the ability to stop it, if and when it happens?

saltwn's got it exactly right, We're building up a network of missile defences to protect all of E. Europe from potential terrorist/rogue nation attacks. Lithuania, Latvia, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus - they're all on our list of potential sites for anti-terrorist/rogue nation missile defence systems. This wall of protection across your western borders should make you feel VERY safe.
