.N. Korea again rebuffs S. Korean call for talks

AFP 1 hr 52 mins ago. 2 Feb. 2012

North Korea's top ruling body Thursday again rebuffed South Korea's call for talks, saying Seoul's conservative leaders should first "repent of their crimes" and honour past summit agreements.

Seoul has said there is a "window of opportunity" for dialogue to ease tense relations after the death of Pyongyang's longtime leader Kim Jong-Il on December 17.

The North's new regime headed by Kim's youngest son Jong-Un has repeatedly rejected any dealings with the South's leaders, blasting them as "traitors" to the Korean people.

And half of the people are in dire straits, which happens to be in N. Korea, so whom are the real "traitors" to the people?

On Thursday the National Defence Commission issued what it called a questionnaire to the government of South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak -- and told him to stop talking about dialogue until he has responded.

The response came one day after a top US diplomat told Pyongyang that it must improve ties with Seoul if it wants better relations with Washington.

The North accuses Lee's government of failing to respect the late Kim by briefly ordering troops on alert after his death, and by restricting private mourning delegations to Pyongyang.

What the north doesn't understand is they have done a lot to in the way of military ops to make people keep their distance. As well as foolish acts like this one to make a bad situation worst.

In Thursday's statement, carried by its official news agency, the North asked Seoul's leaders whether they were ready to "deeply repent of their crimes" after Kim's death and to apologise.

The nuclear-armed North also told the South to honour cooperation agreements reached at summits in 2000 and 2007; halt major exercises with US troops; work for denuclearisation; and halt "vicious" smear campaigns.

Yet these idiots can fire live ammo on defenseless people any time they want, as they did a short while ago.. Plus by their action they start these so called vicious smear campaigns themselves. And when have they lived up or honored any agreements?

It reiterated calls for a peace agreement to replace the armistice that ended the 1950-53 war, and told the South to scrap a tough law which punishes unauthorised contacts with its neighbour.

It urged Lee's government "to be well aware of its plight, stop talking about north-south dialogue and improved relations and double-think whether it has qualifications to be a dialogue partner of the DPRK (North Korea)."

Seoul rejected the questionnaire as "unreasonable" and urged Pyongyang to show a "sincere" attitude.

I just saw that movie again for about the 5th time last week. I love them all. These I will re-watch over and over while I find it hard to do the same with most other older movies...

And we haven't heard much sense the last post from N. Korea. So I hope this isn't a reflection on what they might do soon.

BTW did you get that football Mikeyy?

I was wondering when more on the former leader would arise.

Quote:

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) Coat flying open, reins in hand, Kim Jong Il is depicted astride a galloping horse in a larger-than-life statue unveiled Tuesday as part of birthday celebrations for the late North Korean leader.

The statue is the first bronze casting of Kim, who during his lifetime shunned proposals to erect a bronze like the massive statue of his father, North Korea founder Kim Il Sung, that towers over downtown Pyongyang. Kim Jong Il, who would have turned 70 on Thursday, died of a heart attack in December.

Kim Jong Il told officials in 1999 that he wasn't ready to accept such adulation while his promise of building an affluent society in the nation of 24 million remained unfulfilled, according to excerpts from a speech published last month. During Kim's reign, the country suffered from a famine that killed hundreds of thousands of North Koreans.

In a posthumous compromise, artisans from the Mansudae Art Studio depicted the Kims riding side by side on horseback for Pyongyang's first public sculpture of the late leader. But artisans told The Associated Press that a towering bronze of Kim Jong Il is in the works and will take its place on Mansu Hill.

To bad those hundreds of thousands who died of hunger and other means won't see this.

Tuesday's widely anticipated unveiling of the 18-foot-tall (5.7 meters) statue took place amid a fervent propaganda campaign to build up the man who led the nation for 17 years as his son and successor, Kim Jong Un, takes over the country's helm.

Kim Jong Il postage stamps, commemorative coins and gold medals have been rushed into production in the weeks before the birthday newly dubbed "Day of the Shining Star." Slogans have been carved on mountainsides in honor of his birthday, and a song composed in his honor.

At the site is a video right here than the news continues

Well it looks like this kid without much experience is either a lone nut job or doing the bidding of both China & Russia.

Which still makes him a bit screwy. They attack a S. Korean Islands yet get upset if one shell hits their waters.

People worry about this coming Maya Doomsday, well between a few countries like this one and it's friends I am worried we might face one hell of a War anytime soon if not later.

.N. Korea threatens 'sacred war' over US-South drill

AFP – 2 hrs 26 mins ago. 25 Feb. 2012

North Korea on Saturday threatened a "sacred war" over US-South Korean joint military drills next week as a US envoy urged Pyongyang's new leadership to engage in dialogue with the outside world.

The North's National Defence Commission (NDC) denounced the annual joint exercises as a "silent declaration of war," describing them as "unpardonable war hysteria."

Key Resolve, a computerised command post exercise, will start on Monday and continue until March 9. Separately, the joint air, ground and naval field training exercise Foal Eagle will be held from March 1 to April 30.

"Key Resolve and Foal Eagle are unpardonable war hysteria kicked up by the hooligans to desecrate our mourning period and an unpardonable infringement upon our sovereignty and dignity," the NDC said in a statement.

"Our army and people will foil the moves of the group of traitors to the nation and warmongers at home and abroad for a new war with a sacred war of our own style," the NDC said, indicating it would stage a counter exercise.

The threat is the latest instance of Pyongyang taking a hostile tone towards Seoul since Kim Jong-Un, the youngest son of the late leader Kim Jong-Il, took over after his father Kim Jong-Il died of a heart attack on December 17.

Last week the North vowed "merciless retaliatory strikes" if any shells landed in waters claimed by Pyongyang during a live-fire artillery exercise near the disputed Yellow Sea border.

But in the event it took no military action in response to the drill.

While N. Korea dine on the best, drive some of the best auto's etc., it appears they care little for the average person. So it is up to us to feed them? I sure hope our farmers get enough water as it has been very dry this winter here in KS.

.US commander admits conditions on N. Korea aid

AFP 1 hr 37 mins ago. 28 Feb. 2012

A US commander acknowledged Wednesday that Washington has linked food aid to North Korea to progress on military issues, saying that the impoverished communist state needs to halt its nuclear program.

The US State Department has repeatedly denied it is tying politics to North Korea's requests for food and insisted it is only assessing humanitarian needs, amid reports by Christian aid groups of widespread hunger.

But Admiral Robert Willard, head of US Pacific Command, which covers Asia, outlined the conditions to food aid as he testified before Congress, where many lawmakers are skeptical of assistance to the hostile country.

"There are conditions that are going along with the negotiations with regard to the extent of food aid," Willard told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Willard said "preconditions" for assistance "now include discussions of cessation of nuclearization and ballistic missile testing and the allowance of IAEA perhaps back into Yongbyon."

North Korea in 2009 kicked inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog, out of Yongbyon, the communist regime's key nuclear facility that was vital in developing atomic weapons.

The United States and North Korea last week held talks in Beijing aimed at resuming moribund six-nation nuclear negotiations. Washington has demanded Pyongyang commit to previous agreements on giving up its nuclear weapons.

Two choices I have for the readers... Either start using the thread UNREST in other COUNTRIES or keep on using the links provided.

I will try to this back to the top when this tread starts to get buried. But time is killing me doing each of these threads.

At UNREST in other COUNTRIES I plce a bunch of news stories into one location covering several links.

And all of the links are there for each reader to use.

My for your readership in the past. I just hope each of you adjusts and check out the site I will maintain.
