Is war possible with Iran if this Saudi Prince whom is taking over control from his aging father blunders in dealing with the Iranians? Will Trump back what he does.
The only positive thing I see in him has been bringing his country into the 21 Century.

Yet this question is what this writer is asking in the title.

Quote:
Quote:

Hired gun: Is war with Iran now inevitable under new Saudi crown prince?

Israel and Washington seem to have been instrumental in the rise of Riyadh's new leader, a hot-headed young royal who leaves a trail of havoc behind him. But can they control him?

By most accounts, the young crown prince was, just three years earlier, an entirely obscure figure whose short period as defense minister was marred by several unfortunate setbacks, including billions of dollars lost in Yemen. Then there was the time he threw his weight behind an oil scheme that resulted in an oil price crash, which has left the Saudi economy decimated.

The new crown prince really does have an awful lot to prove. But that’s not a good thing.

Ruthlessly ambitious and an outsider, this makes him dangerous and unpredictable, yet for Donald Trump’s purposes the perfect partner to spearhead his ill-conceived campaign against Iran. Slowly, Trump’s pieces are falling into place in the Middle East, and it is no surprise that the first media in the region to praise Mohammed’s swift takeover of the cherished post was that of Israel.

Mohammed bin Salman has inherited a country not only at a crossroads in its contemporary history, as it struggles to unshackle itself from oil dependency, but one which appears to be suffocating under its own insecurities, foibles and paranoia. Indeed, the more the House of Saud moves, it seems, the more it appears to be in a permanent state of geopolitical dysfunction. In fact, few analysts, except perhaps for David Ignatius of the Washington Post – who was recently accused of having not an entirely healthy journalistic relationship with the Saudi elite – have failed to notice the country’s blunders in the region. It’s as though almost everything that Riyadh does outside of its borders just turns to ashes. Syria, Yemen and now Qatar.

Can this absurdly young, aggressive and outlandish new leader, who will take the reigns under an increasingly despondent and frail father as remaining monarch, really help his country? Or is he doomed to push it into the abyss as many regional commentators fear?

Salman has a reputation as being anti-establishment and desperate to be seen as a reformer. But his haste was his downfall in the past. Despite being hugely popular and very much seen at home as a modernist – who we should remember took away key powers from the religious police and is throwing his weight behind a modernization plan to drag the country into the 21st century –
Mohammed’s bold idea to thunder ahead with a military campaign in Yemen was a great error which his adversaries are only too keen to cautiously point out.

26 pages plus over 14,000 reads and I don't post in this thread that often of late.

Again with let's upset America or any of the western allies of America. Yet this person is also a citizen of China.

Heck they have as Spies nearly 70 of their own citizens in city jails. WHICH SAYS TO ME THEY SEE SPIES EVERY WHERE. And must have quite a few of their own Spies working the west.

Quote:
US-China citizen given 10 years for espionage in Iran:

Tehran (AFP) - A Chinese American accused of "infiltration" in Iran has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, local media reported on Sunday.

The man was identified as Xiyue Wang, a 37-year-old researcher at Princeton University, according to Mizanonline, the official news agency of Iran's judiciary.

Wang, who was born in Beijing according to the report, was arrested on August 8, 2016 while trying to leave the country.

Mizanonline said he was part of "an infiltration project" aimed at gathering "highly confidential articles" for several US and British institutions, including Princeton, the US State Department, Harvard's Kennedy School and the British Institute for Persian Studies.

"Before his arrest he was able to digitally archive 4,500 pages of the country's documents, while under covert surveillance," said Mizanonline.

The confidential documents were said to be taken from "research and cultural archives" and "the libraries of some state organisations".

Mizanonline published an excerpt from a British Institute of Persian Studies annual report, in which Wang thanked its librarian for helping him make contact with academics in Iran.

The report claimed this as "proof" Wang was on a covert mission, although the quote shows Wang was openly trying to work with academics to access a number of official archives in Tehran and Mashhad.

- 'Fabricated charges' -

Deputy judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejeie had earlier announced the sentencing of an American citizen without giving his name or second nationality.

Ejeie said the man had appealed his conviction.

The US State Department issued a statement soon afterwards, calling for "the immediate release of all US citizens unjustly detained in Iran so they can return to their families", without referring to any specific person.

"The Iranian regime continues to detain US citizens and other foreigners on fabricated national security-related charges," a US official said.

In January, Tehran's chief prosecutor said as many as 70 "spies" were serving sentences in the city's prisons, but the identities of only a handful have been made public.

In October, US-Iranian business consultant Siamak Namazi and his 80-year-old father Baquer, a former UNICEF official, were given 10 years in prison for "espionage and collaboration with the American government".

Washington has repeatedly called for their release and also for Tehran's cooperation in the case of Robert Levinson, a former FBI agent who disappeared in Iran in 2007.

The news comes amid tensions between the two countries as President Donald Trump and Congress have taken increasingly harsh positions against Tehran.

Trump has promised to tear up the 2015 nuclear deal struck between Iran and world powers including the United States that lifted some sanctions in return for curbs on Tehran's nuclear programme.

In mid-June, the American Senate backed new sanctions against Iran, denouncing the Islamic republic's "continued support of terrorism". The bill must be passed by the House of Representatives.

The new restrictions impose mandatory sanctions on people involved with Iran's ballistic missile programme and those that transact with them.

Iran has vowed to respond with "reciprocal and adequate measures".

What's up is Iran has billions of dollars delivered in unmarked and unrecorded bundles by unmarked planes and with absolutely no agreement or treaty justifying the delivery and with no restrictions on its use. Courtesy of our former president. There is nothing to stop Iran from shooting down aircraft invading their airspace. We'd do the same.

I didn't reopen the thread. But I will respond.

Iran is a problem, and it's a problem of our own doing.

I don't find any thread worth reading 26 pages. I have no idea whether I have responded earlier or not. But I'll respond if I think O have something to add.

Funny but there is one thread that has 26 pages worth reading each one. I need to add more in it as I slacked off. But it has it own link.

"On This Date" Second sticky down in Current News, at;

http://www.politicalwrinkles.com/new...4-date-26.html

But then it is for each person to decide if they want to do it..
