Default Ronald Reagan statue unveiled in London

Looks like there's a few good people left in the UK...

Ronald Reagan statue unveiled in London

Quote:
Former US president Ronald Reagan was honoured today with the unveiling of a statue in Grosvenor Square to mark 100 years since his birth.

Foreign Secretary William Hague and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice both paid tribute to the late President at the unveiling ceremony, which coincides with the US Independence Day celebrations.

"I doubt very much that President Reagan would have even imagined the world that we see today and so this statue of Ronald Reagan is quite clearly a memorial and a commemoration of a glorious past but more importantly it is a call to an even more glorious future," said Ms Rice, who was representing Reagan's widow, Nancy Reagan, at the ceremony.

Mr Reagan's great political ally and friend, former prime minister Baroness Thatcher, was not able to attend due to her physical frailty, so Mr Hague paid tribute to the former President on her behalf: "Ronald Reagan was a great President and a great man. A true leader for our times. It was a pleasure to be his colleague and his friend and I hope that this statue will be a reminder to future generations of the debt we owe him," he said.
Try to build that statue in some places right here in America and you'd get shot down in seconds...

Mmmm, I dunno- it doesn't really look much like Uncle Bill to me.

You're not even a good hater...

From 1982...

For the second time in nine days, an aircraft door opened last night and a world figure jarred by an assassination attempt walked down the steps. Some of the props were the same - the VIP receiving line, the viewing stand.

But there the resemblance ended. President Reagan's arrival in Britain was like a Papal welcome re-made as a low-cost 1940s B picture in the Hollywood genre of ruined urban landscapes.

The presidential Air Force One jet touched down in a furtive, security-ridden oil-reeking corner of Heathrow airport between the cargo terminal and the animal quarantine centre, a place that John McEnroe could without provoking disagreement have called "the pits of the world" if he were ever unlucky enough to be important enough to be required to land there.

For once tossing around the word hate has paid off for one of you guys. Every now and then you throw enough stuff up something's gonna stick right?
I credit him with th beginning of the demise of America. Many of the economic problems we have now stem from his era in office. People like to rewrite history and say he was something he was not. I was there and saw America before, during and after Uncle Ronnie and it is much much worse even before the mortgage crises. All this trickle down bs started then. Maybe he didn't do all of it but he presided and guided congress. After his mandate they practically rolled over backwards for his agenda. One of the worse things he did was strike the fairness doctrine. A cronyism I'm sure. As far as I'm concerned he doesn't deserve outright dispising. Cause he was nothin' but a bum.
