Bush arrives in West Bank to meet with Palestinian leaders

RAMALLAH, West Bank (CNN) -- Pushing a "historic opportunity" to work for Middle East peace, U.S. President George W. Bush arrived in the West Bank Thursday to meet with Palestinian leaders, a day after huddling with their Israeli counterparts.

Bush is scheduled to hold talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and other top government officials. A joint news conference was scheduled.

In his first visit to the region as president, Bush has admitted he hopes his presence will push the Israeli and Palestinian leaders along on the stalled process.

"If you're asking me, 'Am I'm nudging them forward?' -- well my trip was a pretty significant nudge," Bush said at a news conference Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

The rest of his week-long visit to the region includes stops in other Arab countries that are key U.S. allies.

Isn't it kind of dangerous to do this in war time?

I just heard GWB say that he's encouraged that peace talks will succeed...

And I'm thinking to myself, "What on earth could POSSIBLY make you believe that???"...

I don't know how accurate he is, but Savage (the radio personality) said the king of Jordan had offered the Palestinians a home within his country's borders.
Is the king of Jordan going to be at these talks?

A side note: Wouldn't it be weird if there was peace as a result of this trip? Nancy Pelosi would have a little Nancy Pelosi-a cow.
Now that was just mean

Take everything Savage says with a grain of salt...he's like Ron Paul...

Some good ideas here and there, but eventually proves he's as loony as a jaybird...

She'd take credit for setting it all up...

there is only one way to achieve peace between Palestinians and Israel, and that is for the Palestinians to completely reshape their identity. During the creation of Israel, those aligned with the Nazis and supported the Mufti's genocidal campaign against Jews left for the most part, while those who were capable of living among Jews stayed for the most part. That group of Palestinians now living outside Israel proper are the descendants of those who aligned with the Nazis and many, if not most still share that ideology.

When the desire for genocide is what shapes a person's identity, peace will forever remain out of reach. Not all Palestinians harbor this genocidal hatred of Jews, but a signifigant percentage sure do, and when their media continually hammers home the notion that murdering Jews is the highest attainment in Palestinian society, and this notion is introduced as soon as a Palestinian child is old enough to toddle, then how can one possibly expect peace?

They can deal with Abbas all they want, but even if Abbas DID want peace, the real change needs to occur among the Palestinian people.

Wow! look at this...

Quote:
In Jerusalem, US President George W Bush has used some of his strongest language so far to describe the vision he says he has of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
Quote:
At a news conference Mr Bush said there should be "an end to the occupation that began in 1967".

"The agreement must establish Palestine as a homeland for the Palestinian people, just as Israel is a homeland for the Jewish people," he added.

Statement made, Mr Bush went to have dinner with the Israeli prime minister, Ehud Olmert.

The Israelis say they would not have chosen some of the language Mr Bush used - the word "occupation" is something with which Israeli governments have always had difficulties.

But they say the president's statement is for them a positive basis on which to continue their dialogue with the Palestinians.
I really think he (Bush) has chutzpa.

Quote:
Mr Bush inaugurated a new peace process at an international conference in Annapolis, Maryland, six weeks ago.

The immediate aftermath of the talks was ruined by an Israeli plan to extend a Jewish settlement on occupied land between Jerusalem and Bethlehem called Har Homa.

How far will Israel go before she realizes her eccentricities and backs off?

Bravo, Mr. Bush. From a position of strength and "We got your back, Israel",
you go to. "Whatcha gonna do for me, punk?"
I like it.

I heard it too and raised an eyebrow...

No PC talk...No propaganda...No sugarcoating...

Exactly what should've been done years (decades) ago...
