Mohammed now second most popular boys' name in Britain

Quote:
For the last 13 years it has reigned supreme as the most popular boy's name in the land.

But in multicultural Britain, children named after the Muslim prophet Mohammed could soon be outnumbering the long-time favourite Jack.

In a reflection of the increasing influence of Islam on UK society, figures released by the Office of National Statistics yesterday showed that the most popular spelling of the name - Mohammed - had climbed five places to 17th in the annual list of most popular baby names.

But when the seven other spellings of the name are taken into account, the total amounted to 6,347 babies, making it the second-most popular name of the year - up from 5,936 last year.

Although Jack topped the list with 6,772 babies, that figure fell 156 on last year, meaning that if the trends were repeated next year, Mohammed and its variant spellings would be the most popular choice in England and Wales.

The last national census in 2001 put the UK Muslim population at 1.6million, but this will have grown substantially in the past five years.
Great Britain...a national identity lost (hijacked)...

I hope none of them names their teddy bear Mohammed and Sudan finds out...

If a teacher in the US allowed a child to name a teddy bear Jesus, there might be an out cry, but it would not be from Christians, but from the Secular Humanists that would object to the use of Jesus's name in public school... They would scream "Separation of Church and State!!!!!"...

I just can't keep this Muslim logic straight.

It's OK to name a person(no matter how evil he might become) Mohamed.
But don't dare name an innocent Teddy Bear after a kid in the class named Mohamed or its a reason for you to die.

It stands to reason that we will see more of this as time goes on. It's all part of globalization.

The concept of a national identity as a static thing, well, that was never true to begin with. Even if there were a halt to immigration, the demographics of a nation would still continue to change.

I believe it is better to live in the now and deal with reality of now, than to pine away wistfully for the "good ol' days." Those days not only aren't coming back, but they weren't really as good as people choose to remember them.

I understand your feeling though. Change is scary sometimes.
But change should be embraced and met head-on... because change is not going to stop.

I admit that I also don't know why this is the case, but I am sure there is an explanation for it. Whether or not we like the explanation is an entirely different matter.

But diminishing a whole group of people at arms length with the phrase "Muslim logic" makes you look arrogant. Rather than criticize from a position of ignorance, why not do the research and learn why this is so?

Given your signature quote (by the way, the man's name is Heinlein), I would have thought you were trying to demonstrate that you are one of the people who think, who count. Do you think this post demonstrates that?

No...

It's all part of SELECTIVE and PARTIAL globalization...

It's Third World countries and immigrants from fundamental theocracies using globalization as a one-way street into Western culture, but the OPPOSITE does not hold true because the same countries that allow their culture to be exported refuse to allow other cultures to be imported...
