![]() Thank you for your giving directions and I've gotten my driving license. The reason that I couldn't pass the testing item of straight line driving always, I thought, was because my driving instructor was unable to understand why the item would be tested in the driving test. In fact, the testing item is to test whether the applicant could drive a car passing a narrow bridge, the left side of which was being pushed outside 30 centimeters from the left tyres, and so the right side, or not, rather than drive going in a straight line. But because he didn't study the testing item deeply and therefore understood it superficially, my instructor insisted that I couldn't move the wheel when the testing item began. Image the situation that you don't move your wheel when you drive your car through a narrow bridge!

![]() So many times I could not pass the item made me start having no confidence in him - but I thought my driving skill and road sense were enough to support me to pass the driving test, and he also realized it. I borrowed some books and looked through lots of postings on Internet that told about their experiences of passing their driving tests, esp. the straight line driving, it's its official name though, which confirmed me that there's something wrong in the instructor's understanding. And so I asked the instructor to consult the examiner of the testing center he knew what the hell the item of straight line driving would examine. He finally made clear that driving in a straight line in the driving test meant driving on a narrow bridge at my insistence.

![]() I cannot speak to the matter of just how difficult it is to get a driver's license in Wuhan City, China--I simply have no idea--but in Middle Tennessee (at least, 50 years ago, when I received mine), it was quite easy.
At that time, I had been behind the wheel of an automobile only once--yes, once--and I passed easily. (Perhaps the standards have been tightened since then. I really do not know.)
