This has always bothered me. Pick any state then find another where it cost much more to live, from gas to food prices.

I left here to marry and live in Indian and man cost were half as much as here.

So were paychecks. Now why is that? Anyone........

The cost of gas at the pump includes Fuel excise taxes as a constant component.

At say $0.47 per gallon this is a small fraction of $4.00 per gallon gasoline. When crude oil is cheap ( $1.60 per Gallon) that $0.47 is 25% of the cost at the pump.

Taxes are high in the states with the high paying jobs. Some would suggest that justifies higher taxes. And higher taxes must somehow bring in those jobs and higher salaries. Really? The question one should ask is which came first, Chicken or egg.

If you still don't get it. look at all those high paying jobs that used to be in Detroit Michigan.

Remember when Dad worked, Mom stayed home and taxes were lower? Then mom burned her bra, got a job to be "equal" and the family income went up? Great right?

Politicians noticed. So, some 40 years later, mom is working to pay the tax bill. Is this a great country, or what!

KS., rate is lower than most others as we produce or did gas. Plus we have far to many main underground pipelines which the state collect's from each owner.

Till 1998 or just B-4 our gas prices NEVER rose over a dollar. Now I have not followed it price index myself as I was out of state between 1997 till 2007. But sense 2007 I have not heard about it being raised. And our local news does a good job of reporting the legislators bills and desires.

About the highest I saw today while out was $1.46 & 9/10's. I got gas yesterday at Dillion's and with 40 cents off for shopping during the month of January it was $1.07 & 9/10's a gallon which my tank took a bit over 10 gallons and I was in the 1/4 tank range.

10.58 gallons at $1.07 & 9/10's= $11.42 rounded up.
