$3.69 they claim that one of the refineries that we get our oil from is down so we have to get it from places farther south, I call BS!

Here in London it is US$1.76 for one litre. There are 4.55 litres in one gallon so a gallon is 4.55 x 1.76 = US$8.00 a gallon.

$2.89 today, and I just look back to about a couple of weeks ago when I paid $1.99 with the Kroger discount.

Saaaaaaaad.

At least it's not the middle of Ontario where it was avg $1.20/litre.

Wouldn't be so bad if oil wasn't hovering just above the $40 mark.

Not really. When you consider gas prices one cannot compare Canadian values. Their tax burden on fuel is enormous compared to USA taxes.

It is part of how they pay for their health care system. Don't worry, our government is contemplating the same idea. The good news is that once installed, those new taxes will make comparisons to Canadian fuel costs more "equal."

Feel better now?

In general, costs [of health care coverage in Canada] are paid through funding from income taxes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Canada
[And in the case of BC] a fixed monthly premium which is waived or reduced for those on low incomes.

In short the Canadian system of health care is mostly paid for at the provincial level.

Linky?

Oh never mind , Truth is you don't know crap.

Canadian health care is predominately funded through GENERAL REVENUE SOURCES of the central government. Income and consumption taxes.
http://thepatientfactor.com/understa...e-101/funding/

There are two types of taxes on gasoline:
•Fixed tax – The federal government charges an excise tax at a flat rate of 10 cents per litre on gasoline (in effect since 1995) and 4 cents per litre on diesel (in effect since 1987). Furnace oil, natural gas and propane are exempt from this tax (only the Goods and Services Tax (GST) or Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) applies). Provincial governments also collect gasoline taxes and these vary considerably by province. Lastly, three municipalities in Canada also apply taxes on gasoline. Vancouver, Victoria and Montreal charge taxes of 11.0, 3.5 and 3.0 cents a litre, respectively.

•Sales tax – The federal Goods and Services Tax (GST) is 5%, (except in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland/Labrador, Ontario and P.E.I. where it is replaced by the HST). GST/HST is charged on crude oil, refining and marketing costs and margins, the federal excise tax and provincial road taxes. This tax is based on a percentage of the retail price, a method known as ad valorem.

Consumption taxes are what is added to a sale price. Fuel is refined, shipped and sold in Canada. And taxed at every level of government and every level of process and distribution. 'case you missed the point.

And my point is how it is funded, regardless of how medical care is distributed.
