Default Making flowers last longer

I received some nice flowers from my daughter last Tuesday for my birthday. A sachet was included that I needed to add to the water, which preserves the flowers for longer.

The water is getting low now in the vase. I want to top it up but that dilutes the concentration of the preservative in the water.

Does anyone know if sugar, Aspirin or salt would help? Those are all supposedly proven to keep the flowers looking good, but I would like to get opinions from others on here.

They have lasted a week so far.

A nice arrangement I received last May lasted a couple of weeks by just topping up the water which diluted the preservative of course, but wondered what you think.

Many thanks in advance for suggestions.

Recut the stems every other day, and change the water (don't just add to it) daily using room temperature water.

I've heard both sugar and asprin, but since I don't get cut flowers (I prefer living things) for the most part, I don't recall which works best.

I am reluctant to completely change the water as there is about half a litre of the water in; (it has lost half a litre through evaporation and absorption in the last seven days), but I will top it up with some sugar.

Thanks GG.

Aspirin works. Ask any florist.

Great, I have Aspirin. The flowers she bought me started to die a couple of days ago, so that is pretty good really - just over 3 weeks. Flowers usually come with a sachet of liquid or powder that makes the water more nutritious for them, but of course topping up the water every few days as the level goes down does dilute the water. Thanks for that tip.
