Default Travel: Your Dream Vacation

If you could plan a trip somewhere where would it be and how would you go about it?

I am kicking around ideas for a dream vacation. I am working on a business deal and if it goes well I will be in a position to take a few months and do something different. I have been to most all of Asia and Australia for work so I would like to do something different. I have never been to Europe.

My thinking was to take my time and walk or scooter around the Mediterranean. Starting in Croatia and than boating over to Italy. Venice down to florance where I would hit the Med coast. Then either hike or get a scooter and take my time going around the coast to Cannes and on to Barcelona Spain. Following the Spainish coast around to Gibraltar and up to Portugal and across to France.

I figure that would take about 5-6 weeks. I was talking it over with a friend and we were thinking about biking at first but I thought that I would just as soon walk. I can walk for miles comfortably so it's no big deal. But I figured if it got boring walking that a scooter might be handy. Sort of a backpacking trip.

Yeah, I could see that. That is why my other idea was to get a small sailboat and sail the coast.

You like to bike? The old capitol doesn't even allow cars. Best seafood dishes and monoliths and Roman/Ottoman structures for sight seeing. If you get bored Majorca is next door. Look at Minorca on google earth; it's fairly gorgeous.

Yeah, I am familiar with Majorca because that is where they make some fairly famous Faux pearls.

My dream vacation would either be to Dominica, or to the Middle East. In Dominica, I would dive and hike and swim under waterfalls.

In the middle east, I would visit Egypt (Temple of Karnak, Pyramids of Giza, Abu Simbel, Valley of the Kings, Dahshur, Saqqara), go to Petra, go to Arbil in Iraq, go to Masada in Israel, and visit Khirbet Qumran. Then to top it off, I would go diving extensively in the Red Sea.

You like Egyptian history. It is kind of neat isn't it?

Already have mine half planned.

Scotland, 2014.

700th anniversary of the battle at Bannockburn (the equivalent of the American Revolution), also planned to be a Gathering of the Clans at Stirling.

We (friends and I) will be spending 2 weeks, visiting Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh, many lochs and castles, parts of the Highlands, the islands of Lewis & Harris, Iona, just to name a few.

It will be a trip of a lifetime.

I may not come back.
