No I didn't, but I think that was part of my problem with the 4 arguments, he tended to couch some of his ideas in a certain type of spirituality that he didn't feel jibed with some aspects of modernity if i remember correctly.

Let's see... I've read plenty of new books lately.
I read The Help last weekend. it was entertaining enough, but I wasn't all that impressed with it. I'll probably see the movie when it comes out at redbox or on netfix, though.
I read The Virgin Suicides a couple of weeks ago (not a new book, it came out years ago, but I'd never read it before). it was awful. I hated it. Couldn't wait to be done with it.
I read Towelhead. This was a good book, actually. I enjoyed it. i had previously seen the movie, which wasn't bad either.

Amazon Amazon
<---- recommend.

It's a semi-autobiographical coming of age novel about a young girl who is kicked out by her white mother and forced to go live with her Lebanese father, whom she barely knows, in an affluent suburb of Houston during the mid-1980s.

I bought the book because of the interesting dichotomy between technology and Indian tribes. I couldn't understand how those two subjects were anywhere near related.

But as I read the book, the point Mander was making, was that as he was studying the influx of western civilization upon certain tribes that were once closed off from the rest of the world, he started seeing an increase in alcoholism, divorce, spousal abuse, etc., within the tribes.

It's pretty compelling stuff!

Best book on Vietnam I have ever read. Probably out of print.

I read these two on the plane ride to and from.

Destiny of the Republic - Candice Millard

Wonders of the Universe - Brian Cox

I HIGHLY recommend Destiny of the Republic. It's about the assassination of James Garfield. I was gripped and fascinated. Learned a few things I never knew before. Read the entire book in just under four hours. Get it now if you love history.

Thunder Dog - Michael Hingson

Just started this one today. Looks really good. A true story about a blind man and his guide dog on 9/11.
