Could they be from Iran? In most cases the Insurgents takes credit right away, sometimes as the attack is sprung.

In March alone 112 people were dead from attacks. Now imagine this in your city..

.Five dead in north Iraq ambush

AFP – 3 hrs ago. 12 April 2012

Unknown gunmen firing Kalashnikovs and PK machineguns ambushed a police patrol Thursday in north Iraq, killing two policemen and three civilians and wounding six more, a top police officer said.

The gunmen ambushed the police patrol about 40 kilometres (24 miles) south of the northern city of Kirkuk, killing two policemen and three civilians and wounding three policemen and three civilians, Brigadier General Sarhad Qader said.

The gunmen fired from three cars, Qader said, adding that they battled police for about 30 minutes before managing to flee.

The Al-Qaeda and Ansar al-Sunna militant groups are active in the area, Qader said.

Ethnically divided and oil-rich Kirkuk province lies at the centre of a tract of territory which Kurdish leaders want to incorporate in their autonomous region in the north despite the opposition of many of the province's Arab and Turkmen residents, and of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Violence in Iraq has fallen sharply from a peak of 2006 and 2007, but attacks still continue across the country. In March 112 Iraqis were killed in violence.

.Pakistan intelligence service says it warned of jail attack

By Nasir Jaffry | AFP – 2 hrs 28 mins ago. 17 April 2012

Pakistan's intelligence services warned the government three months ago about a possible attack on a prison in the restive northwest that was raided at the weekend, officials said Tuesday.

On Sunday nearly 400 prisoners, including militants, escaped from a jail outside the town of Bannu after an attack by insurgents armed with guns, grenades and rockets.

The intelligence information was conveyed to the government through a letter dated January 5, 2012, a copy of which was seen by AFP.

The letter identified Bannu jail as a target, along with the Pakistan Air Force base in the northwestern garrison town of Kohat, the Kohat cantonment and a police station.

"The intelligence information about the possible attacks was shared with the government in January 2012," a senior intelligence official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

More than 150 heavily-armed Islamists stormed the prison near the lawless tribal region where Taliban and Al-Qaeda linked militants have carved out their stronghold.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, spokesman for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group claimed responsibility for the attack, which he said was launched to free some of their top members.

A former member of the air force sentenced to death for an attempt to assassinate former president Pervez Musharraf was among the escaped militants, he said.

Adnan Rasheed was convicted after a bomb planted under a bridge in Rawalpindi near Islamabad in December 2003 exploded moments after Musharraf's motorcade passed. His appeal is pending before the Supreme Court.

It seems nothing we do to make Pakistan understand that they have a real problem in which once we get out of this area, they will still have to deal with these guys. And that once we stop giving them $ these guys will turn on the Pakistan govt & military.

.Haqqani network behind Kabul attack: US Ambassador

AFP – 4 hrs ago. 19 April 2012

The Pakistani-based Haqqani network was responsible for a series of attacks in Afghanistan this week, the US ambassador to Kabul said Thursday, and Islamabad is being pressed hard to take action against them.

The attacks on Sunday, including the biggest assault on the capital in 10 years of war, saw squads of militants fire on government offices, embassies and foreign bases.

"There is no question in our mind that the Haqqanis were responsible for these attacks," ambassador Ryan Crocker told reporters in Kabul.

"We know where their leadership lives and we know where these plans are made. They're not made in Afghanistan. They're made in Miranshah, which is in North Waziristan, which is in Pakistan," Crocker said.

"We are pressing the Pakistanis very hard on this. They really need to take action."

Islamabad denies any support for Haqqani activities, but former US military chief Admiral Mike Mullen described the network a "veritable arm" of the Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence agency.

Closely affiliated with the Taliban, the group was founded by Jalaluddin Haqqani during the war against the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s, when it received covert US aid.

This is a mistake on our MIC/CIA's part. America needs to stop supporting future enemies. And stay out of others problems.

Apart from Kabul, the eastern capitals of Paktia, Logar and Nangarhar provinces also came under attack Sunday, with a total of 51 people, including 36 militants, killed.

In September last year, US officials accused the network of a similar attack on the US Embassy in Kabul as well as a truck bombing on a NATO outpost in the same month that injured more than 70 US soldiers.

Washington and Islamabad are in the process of trying to rebuild their fractious relations, in crisis after last year's discovery of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan and a US air raid that mistakenly killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

Man one would think by now Pakistan would realize it has a very big terrorist problem. And that they need the courage to take back all of their lands, even the areas the Army fears to go into.

And if they came clean and willing to work completey with the NATO they could get plenty of help without NATO troops on the ground. Gee it is nice to dream.

.Pakistan station bomb blast kills two

AFP – 3 hrs ago. 24 April 2012.

A bomb exploded near a luxury train waiting lounge at the main railway station in the eastern Pakistan city of Lahore on Tuesday, killing at least two people, police said.

"It was a bomb blast, two people have been killed and 10 injured," senior police officer Abdul Razzaque Cheema told AFP.

Rescue official Kiramat Ali described it as a "huge blast" and said 35 wounded had been taken to hospital.

Pakistan suffers frequent attacks blamed on Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants, who are most active in the lawless tribal belt in the northwest of the country on the border with Afghanistan.

The explosion was the first attack in Lahore, regarded as Pakistan's cultural capital, since a bomb at a Sunni Muslim shrine in February 2011 which killed two people.

An AFP photographer at the scene said the blast took place near the lounge for the luxury Business Express train to Karachi, a service launched two months ago offering first-class travel between Pakistan's two biggest cities.

Television footage showed a waiting room littered with glass and upended furniture, its windows blown in by the force of the explosion.

Senior police officer Ali Ahmad Malik told AFP the bomb was left in a bag and the dead were a porter and a policeman. He added the Business Express train had left the station and was not the target.

City police chief Aslam Tarin told reporters at the site that six to eight kilograms of explosives were used in the bomb.

"It was an act of terrorism and we are investigating how the terrorist came inside the railway station," he said

.Pakistan PM under fire after contempt conviction

By Nasir Jaffry | AFP – 4 hrs ago.

Pakistan's prime minister was Thursday convicted for refusing to reopen a corruption investigation against the president, in a case that could see him thrown out of office.

The Supreme Court found guilty of contempt over his refusal to obey an order to write to the authorities in Switzerland to ask them to restart corruption cases against his ally President Asif Ali Zardari.

Gilani was given only a nominal sentence -- "imprisonment" for a few minutes until the court adjourned -- but the conviction opens the way for proceedings to unseat him as an MP and thus remove him as premier.

This process could drag on for months and in any event Gilani's removal would not necessarily bring down the government, as his Pakistan People's Party (PPP) would be able to choose another lawmaker to replace him.

His lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said the conviction did not automatically disqualify Gilani from office and confirmed he would launch an appeal, a move likely to lengthen matters still further.

But Thursday's ruling is likely to create fresh political uncertainty in a country already struggling with Islamist and separatist militants, economic woes and a long-running energy crisis.

Attorney General Irfan Qadir said that for now Gilani remains prime minister, but this may change if the case goes before the speaker -- who is a member of Gilani's PPP.

"If she thinks that the judgement is valid, she will forward it to the Election Commission, and she will act otherwise if she thinks that the judgement is invalid," Qadir said.

This process could last up to four months and with an election likely to be called in that time, could be overtaken by events.

Dang if this goes to far and the parliament removes him and then one of the radical party gains control. What then for our troops in Afghanistan, or all of NATO?

.Defiant Pakistan PM refuses to quit after conviction

By Sajjad Tarakzai | AFP – 43 mins ago.

Pakistan's prime minister refused to step down Friday as he made a defiant appearance in parliament a day after his conviction over a corruption investigation into the president.

Yousuf Raza Gilani faced opposition calls to quit after the Supreme Court convicted him of contempt for refusing to write to Swiss authorities asking them to reopen a multi-million-dollar graft probe into President Asif Ali Zardari.

His lawyer has said he will appeal against the verdict, which made him the first sitting premier in Pakistan's history to be convicted, and Gilani said only parliament had the authority to remove him from office.

"There is no law to remove an elected prime minister, parliament is the supreme authority and only this parliament has the authority to remove me," he said.

Nawaz Sharif, the head of the main opposition Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) said Thursday that Gilani should quit to avoid pushing the country into "further crisis".

"I am an elected prime minister, representing 180 million people. How can any body order an elected prime minister to go home?" Gilani said.

"Only the speaker of the house, who is the custodian of this house, has the authority to decide."

The conviction opened the way for proceedings to remove him as a lawmaker, but addressing the speaker, Gilani said: "I will step down only if you de-notify me. I will accept if this parliament disqualify me."

Though it looks unlikely to bring down the coalition government led by Gilani's Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Thursday's ruling is likely to cause fresh uncertainty in a country already struggling with Islamist militancy and economic woes.

Legal experts say the process to remove Gilani from office, which involves the speaker referring the matter to the Election Commission, could drag on for months.

Gilani urged the speaker, who is a PPP member, to apply her "own mind" and "own legal assessment" on the case and said his conscience was clear over the Swiss letter.

"I have not committed a crime, I have done nothing wrong but I have protected the constitution of this country," he said.

The Zardari allegations date back to the 1990s when he and his late wife, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, are accused of using Swiss bank accounts to launder about $12 million in bribes from companies seeking customs inspection contracts.

Gilani has always insisted Zardari has full immunity as head of state and last month said that writing to the Swiss would be a violation of the constitution.

The case has been highly politically charged, with members of the government accusing judges of over-stepping their reach and of trying to bring down the prime minister and president, a year before the administration would become the first in Pakistan to complete an elected term.

Associated Press – 3 hrs ago... 2 May 2012.

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — More than 1,500 supporters from a pro-Taliban Islamic party have rallied in southwestern Pakistan to condemn the killing of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden by US forces a year ago.

The protest came a day after the President Barack Obama visited neighboring Afghanistan on the anniversary of bin Laden's killing.

A spokesman for the Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan Party said more than 1,500 supporters burned U.S. flags at Wednesday's rally in the southwestern city of Quetta.

Spokesman Abdul Sattar Chisti said the party handed out free food to hundreds of needy people. Muslims distribute food to seek God's blessings for their beloved ones after their death.

The U.S. commandos killed bin Laden in a secret operation last year without informing Pakistan in advance.

.Bombs kill five in Pakistan badlands

AFP – 12 hrs ago. 3 May 2012

Two bomb attacks killed at least five people in Pakistan's lawless tribal badlands on the Afghan border Thursday, officials said.

The first attack killed two pro-government tribal elders in Chamarkand village, 45 kilometres (28 miles) northwest of Khar, the main town in Bajaur district at around 8.30am (0330 GMT), local government official Tariq Khan told AFP.

The second bomb exploded 10 minutes later after security forces arrived and began a search operation to find the culprits, Khan said.

"Two paramilitary soldiers and one tribal policeman were killed in the second bomb blast," he said.

Another government official, Adalat Khan, confirmed the bombings and casualties.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but tribal elders supporting military operations against local Taliban fighters are frequently attacked.

Bajaur saw major anti-Taliban offensives in August 2008 and February 2009, and the military has repeatedly declared the district secure.

Pakistan has battled homegrown insurgents in the tribal belt for years. More than 3,000 soldiers have died but Pakistan has resisted US pressure to do more to eliminate havens used by insurgents fighting the Americans in Afghanistan.

.Suicide bombing in Pakistani market kills 20

By ANWARULLAH KHAN | Associated Press – 1 hr 32 mins ago.

Posted 4 May 2012.............................................. ....................................

KHAR, Pakistan (AP) — A teenager blew himself up near a Pakistani market close to the Afghan border Friday, killing 20 people, officials said. The suicide bombing came a day after the U.S. released letters seized from Osama bin Laden's compound that criticized Pakistani militants for killing too many civilians.

Five of the dead in the blast in the northwestern Bajur tribal area were local members of the security forces, including one who had received an award for bravery in fighting Islamist militants, government administrator Abdul Haseeb said. The others were passers-by, including a woman and several schoolchildren.

The suicide bomber, who was believed to be 15 to 16 years old, detonated his explosives as he approached a security checkpoint near the market in the town of Khar, said Haseeb. The attack took place as locals were headed to work or taking their children to school. More than 40 people were wounded, most civilians.

The explosion damaged more than a dozen shops, and rescue officials searched through the debris for anyone trapped inside. The ground outside the market was covered in blood and littered with the shoes of those hit by the attack.

Pakistani Taliban spokesman Ahsanullah Ahsan claimed responsibility for the bombing in a telephone call to The Associated Press.

"This is revenge for killing our people," said Ahsan.

And who gets to revenge for all the Muslims your kind have killed over the years?
