Whilst this technology is a surprise to our military, perhaps we should consider what it means to be Hypersonic in space flight. Right now, were we to attempt to stop an LE meteor, our known capabilities equate to shooting an F-16 fighter jet in flight with a police 38 special.

If the Chinese have developed this technology for the purpose I suggested, it is most likely for their own hides.

China has recently announced it's intention to fire a rocket at a planetoid in space. I am merely suggesting that this may likely a part of that effort.
