I cannot access your link. From what I gather, the Captain did not follow the Chain of Command to ask for help. A big ass-chewing would have sufficed for the Captain, if he had everything else running ship shape. My opinion.

sorry, worked for me.
yeah I'm torn about it in many ways. one is that once he reprimanded him the potus should have dropped it. but I can see the other side too.

Please tell us how the POTUS handled this as you seem to imply that he should have dropped it. As I have heard, Trump merely stated that everyone has bad days, and this captain may have just had a bad day. And that was in response to a reporters question.

If you have something more that, please post it for us here . . . with valid links.

I've got no clue as to what Trump has done about this so far.
But the captain may have made mistake as far as the rules are concerned but it seems to me that it helped saved his crews lives.
the sec of navy and the rest of the higher ups that got rid of the Captain were wrong.

IMO the Trump should reinstate the Captain with just a note on his record, and give him a medal.

Trump has given a pass to military people who have committed war crimes, I don't understand why he wouldn't do more for a Commander who was acting completely in the interest of his crew, And to my knowledge, wasn't even the one who released his letter to the media.

The Captain was at a minimum naive and stupid to state that a first line ship in our Navy, the core of our most important naval defense structure, the Carrier Strike Group, (including a guided missile cruiser and five guided missile destroyers), was unfit for battle.

If he was commanding a buoy tender nobody would care but his "non-secure unclassified email" sent to a "broad array of people" rather than up the chain of command is a failure of leadership. To publicly announce that the ship would be offloading the entire crew on Guam and have the ship sit useless for service (along with the associated strike group) with only a skeleton crew to maintain the reactor, threatened the defense of the USA.

That is unconscionable and unforgivable. He should have been held for court martial and stripped of rank and dishonorably discharged . . . He's lucky he was only relieved of command and had his mental faculties, as related to military command, assessed.

I agree. He left the ship because he didn't want to catch the virus, and still ended up getting it. How would he have done in battle?

Having spent 8 years in the USAF, this is a HUGE dereliction of duty. He ran away from a friggin Nuclear Aircraft carrier, and told the world it was on its own. He should undergo a general courts martial, and be put in prison.

He needs to be made an example.

The Captain was lucky not to be court-martialed. The civilian who criticized him publicly resigned. Best outcome for all.

I didn't see that part about offloading the entire crew, et cetera. That smells stupid.
