Default Long-missing Colorado Marine to be buried with full honors

Quote:
A Colorado Marine is being buried with military honors 37 years after he was declared missing during the rescue of an American ship crew that was seized by the Khmer Rouge.

Pfc. James Jacques will be buried Tuesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Jacques was on a helicopter that crashed during the rescue of the cargo ship Mayaguez crew in 1975. Of the 26 people aboard the helicopter, 13 were rescued and the other 13 were declared missing, including Jacques.

Cambodia's Khmer Rouge had seized the Mayaguez and its crew days earlier.

The Defense Department told Jacques' family in August it had identified his remains with newly developed DNA testing.

Jacques grew up in La Junta in southeastern Colorado. He was 18 when he died.

One of my best friends in High School was a relative of his.

I recall that mess of a mission. About every chopper used had plenty of holes in them as well as crews wounded.

These Marines were placed on a small island and in the 24+ hour battles the ship and it's crew were turned over to the Navy, yet communications were so bad the Marines never got the message.

From the time they first hit the ground it became apparent it was more than they could handle for their size and weapons.

So I will add RIP, Pfc. James Jacques and now your family has more closure.
