China and Russia hold first navy exercises

China has & is building up it's deep water navy & air force, I kown some think we owe them so much this isn't a threat to America. Yet is it. I'm sure our armed forces would think so.

China and Russia launched their first joint naval exercises Sunday, with war games in the Yellow Sea that come amid tensions between China and its Asian neighbours over territorial claims.

The six days of drills -- the first dedicated exercises involving navies of the two countries -- are taking place off China's east coast, the official Xinhua news agency said.

Although China has said the military exercises are designed to improve regional stability, they come at a time when Beijing is boosting military spending and more forcefully stating its case in territorial disputes.

China's army newspaper warned Saturday that other military exercises now taking place in Asia between the United States and the Philippines could lead to armed confrontation over the disputed South China Sea.

China and several of its neighbours have rival claims to uninhabited islands in the strategic maritime region, which is believed to be rich in oil and natural gas and straddles strategic shipping lanes vital to global trade.

Beijing and Tokyo also have a long-running dispute over another chain of islands in the East China Sea, called Diaoyu by China and Senkaku by Japan, which sit in rich fishing grounds that may also harbour energy resources.

China has 16 naval vessels and two submarines taking part in the exercises while Russia has four warships, according to state media.

They will focus on joint air defence, anti-submarine tactics and search and rescue, as well as simulated rescue of hijacked vessels and anti-terrorism drills.

Interesting.......... A few months ago the USA & Vietnam held some as well......

IMHO China has it sites on the entire China sea....... Bad news for her neighbors...........

Very interesting opinion which I to agree with. As China as well as N. Korea have for a long time now a brown water Navy.

Of late China has built a blue water Navy. And they are very territorial.

Thus south of Taiwan (which they still contest is their's) and north of the Phillippines
they would have an open shot to the Pacific Ocean. Which they have now. But if war did break out there is little to stop them from attacking the many Islands in the area.

Yep, since most of those "claims" are bogus, legitimacy isn't an issue........

Via economic & military strength they are going to claim the whole damn thing, especially the spratly's

True but they use it, like many others to keep the balance of power among NATO thinking.

And in doing so the hope is NATO will fail one time.

I am not following this. NATO???

If the USA did something like this the entire Caribbean/west Indies would be under our control, & given our power we might as well add the Azores in there......

Bill America would have to speak with NATO before any response unless they attacked our forces first. And still we would talk to NATO & the UN.

Whats not to understand. It is called Protocol.

OK, whatever it has to do w/ China & the claims to those islands......

Of course the USA would consult............

I don't think they have yet decided what it is they will be defending........

I think China can & will take it, because they can, & those other countries will accept it as they must.........
