The Soviets lost eight million men. It took that sacrifice to tie up Germany and keep them at bay. The amount of force the Soviet Union had occupied a lot of Germany's time and resources---not to mention the massive amounts of Germans they killed. Appreciate your theory, sir.

That's my guess, too...
![]() If the Axis was ahead of the game in 1945 instead of turning their tails and running, we probably would've "experimented" with Berlin before Hiroshima...IMO... ![]()

Next, we should imagine that the Soviets remained poor allies of the Nazis. And finally, as with all hypothetical historical questions, we must limit our imaginations. (For example, it is certainly possible that the war with the Soviets killed officers would would have succeeded in assassinating Hitler where others failed -- we will never know.) All that said, and all other things being equal -- a practical impossibility, then no, I don't think that the allies could have won WWII, though America might have held off the ascendant Nazis for a generation or two. Howzat?

I kinda think that even without the Bomb the Allies ultimately would have won, since Hitler's command structure was screwed up (there was a loonie at the top) and there isn't any reason to think that would have changed if Germany succeeded in subduing Europe and wasn't at war with the Rooskies. Hitler's failure to concentrate on U-Boat construction to starve Britain out (the Brits were a few days or weeks away from having insufficient supplies to continue the war until well into 1943 as it was), his failure to keep pushing at Dunkirk, his wacky decision to direct the V2 rockets against population centers rather than harbors supplying the Normandy invasion...the list is long. He was a nut case and he surrounded himself with sycophants.

The Soviets would have never sat on the sidelines, they would have joined one side or the other. If they weren't fighting against the Germans, they would have been fighting with the Germans. This leaves one and only one option - nukes. Even with nukes, I don't believe that a Soviet/German/Japanese alliance could have been beaten. We would have been fighting the Soviets in both the European and Pacific theaters and without the draw of manpower and resources that the Soviets pulled from both the Germans and Japanese (I don't think that people realize that the Japanese kept a pretty substantial reserve of forces to defend against a possible Soviet attack), I think that we'd be living in a completely different world. The chances of a G/S/J alliance invading the USA is pretty slim unless they convinced Mexico to join them ( a VERY real possibility), giving them a staging point to launch a land invasion. If they pulled that off, then all bets are off and we're hitting them with every nuke we can build. Berlin and Tokyo would be history, as would Mexico City. Nukes would be our only plausible defence and I think that we would have been dropping them all over Europe, Japan and Eastern Russia and would have still lost the war. With a massive slave labor force from China adn SE Asia, the G/S/J alliance would have been pumping out Panzers/Tigers and jet fighters like no one's business.
