Although a very cool video.....I can see a lot of poor ergonomics.

I'll bet the back injury rate was tremendous.

You understand don't you, that they'd have no idea of what you're talking about right?

Plus, it being 1936 and all, the alternative to sore backs was often slow starvation and abject poverty.

And after all, their bigger problem was that many of them would be sending off sons to war, or going themselves in just a few years.

You understand don't you, that the science of ergonomics started a long time ago (ancient Greece) and there had been a number of books written on it by 1936.

Businesses didn't really worry about it though, until such time as their state adopted workers comp laws.

Just one more thing to blame unions for......looking after injured workers.



They knew a war was coming how?

I, sorry, I forgot to dumb it down.
I would be very surprised if any of those factory workers, had ever heard the word "ergonomics," no matter that Greeks had studied it (and hadn't called it "ergonomics," since the word had yet to be coined.)

Here, we find a lovely reference to the word's first known usage, in, my goodness, 1949:

And you know this, because? You know their mental state? You can assert that they were immune from worker's injury lawsuits? That the workers would have freely complied with procedures designed to protect their health?

Could you elaborate please upon this supernatural insight?

Actually, I am fairly dismissive of the humanitarian concerns of labor organizations which produce amazingly wealthy and powerful "labor leaders" who are ferried about in black limousines.

To put it another way, ranchers watch out for the health of their livestock, and certainly wish them to feel safe and protected.

I didn't say that they did. I said that the coming war was a bigger problem for them. They didn't have to be aware of it.

Of course, the more politically and socially aware would have known this to be a distinct possibility by 1936. Here's someone who had probably figured it out.


You should remember, I know what I'm talking about, it's a policy a I recommend.

You know there are people in this world who are so ..."other" that it is impossible to get through to them even as a gesture of humanity. I think a certain amount of cold pricklies minus warm fuzzies culminates in the rabid blogger, the acrid and sanctimonious poster, the gang flammer...

Taylor's book was written in 1911.




Actually, you don't.

You are however, extremely pompous and have an audacious amount of ill-founded confidence in yourself.

I am actually a little impressed at this self confidence, given that most people would be humiliated after being shown a fool so many times.

Not you though.

Again, more slowly. . . I asserted that the factory workers wiould not know what you meant if you brought up ergonomics.
But I'm sure they'd be fascinated by you concern for their welfare. (I'm not being entirely serious here.)

By the way, I note your concern for the working conditions of long dead men, but you haven't told us what you're doing to help living ones. (Agitating for silly and corrupt unions doesn't count, that mostly helps workers in third world countries where union thuggery sends formerly American jobs.)
