St. Louis Post-Dispatch

GLEN CARBON -- There was almost no question that Randy Dalton had died serving his country during the Vietnam War. He was in a helicopter that crashed, and a medic said he couldn't revive Dalton. Enemy fire, though, forced rescuers to leave his body behind.

The date was July 24, 1971. Now, after years of searches and efforts to secure a positive identification, the remains of Dalton are finally on their way back home to the St. Louis area.

With his three sisters looking on, Dalton will be buried next to his parents in a Glen Carbon cemetery on Sunday -- the 40th anniversary of his death.

"It puts closure to this," said his stepmother, Liz Dalton. "No longer will we wonder, 'Is he still alive?' Even though the (medic) said he was dead, you always wonder."

I dispise liberals probably more than anyone on this site, but that was un-called for

Not a real fan of that era of democrats. It is the reason I will never vote for a democrat in my lifetime.

The Spitting Image: Myth, Memory and the Legacy of Vietnam is a 1998 book by Vietnam veteran Jeremy Lembcke which attempts to repudiate reports that American soldiers, returning home from the Vietnam War, were spat upon and derided with harsh insults by anti-war protesters.

His conclusion was that there was not even a single media report to support the claims. Lembcke concluded that the reported "spitting on soldiers" was a mythical projection of those who felt "spat-upon", and was meant to discredit future antiwar activism.
Whereas I'm sure that some of these instances occurred (in spite of what the book may say), I also believe it has been blown way out of proportion by those with an agenda.

You may paint however you want. Truth is Hippies, Black Panthers, any Little red book carrying person under 30 wasn't voting Republican. Can't remember the republicans being responsible for defunding the South Vietmanese and then watching them get butchered. Watched how many drown under the guise of "boat people"? So sing your tune of "spit myth" to someone else.

That whole subject is way too involved to get into on this thread.

Let me just say that you have tried to simplify a very complicated issue and are totally ignoring the millions of "conservative adult" Americans who turned against the war also.

But hey, whatever dude.

Peace.
