The Navy as other Military forces do this all the time. Why, CASH, Money, $$$, dollars it cost to man and use any of this equipment.

Like other in the govt., each of the military is cutting back where ever possible.

Plus the Navy is re-tooling to a newer Navy with all new ships that do more than one type of job while deployed.

And steel is needed to make the newer ships of all classes. And some equipment on board will be reused where possible if at all, copper will be sold, etc.

Plain simple reality.
