Aircraft carrier to be named after Kennedy

Kennedy sailing in the U.S. fleet."

Kennedy joined the Navy in October 1941 and took command of PT 109 in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On a mission to intercept Japanese vessels, his boat was struck by an enemy ship, splitting it in half.

Kennedy led his crew members to safety over the next six days and he received a Purple Heart for the injuries he received when his boat was struck. He was also awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal.

It is the second aircraft carrier to be named after Kennedy. The CV 67 was also named in his honor. It was decommissioned in 2007 after nearly 40 years of service, including Operation Desert Storm.

The Gerald R. Ford-class carrier will be built at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia. The San Diego Union-Tribune reported the nuclear-powered carrier is to be completed by 2019.

When I saw the title, I said, "PLEASE be John (excellent choice) and not Ted!"...

The last thing we need is a drunk aircraft carrier named "Ted" anywhere near water...

I admire his entire family for their service, but particularly when Ed wanted to he could bring in the statistics, speak well and I liked his views. Most memorable was his speech to prevent (didn't do any good-didn't have the votes) a drug Czar from being named. The ex governor of Fla where Teddy spent a lot of his time. He tracked down (or his staff did) the actual statistics of how much worse a problem drugs had gotten under that governor. Yet he could work with Republicans to get legislation passed.

Stinking coward. Elite protected criminal. Family connections and not always good. Nasty, corrupt politician. Lazy, sorry, entitled ignoramuses. Anything good about them died with bobby and Jack. and that wasn't to the calibre of some former presidents.

WEll. Looks like the navy is dying a rather hurried death. Murtha, Caesar Chavez and now Dead Kennedy. What next. The USS Anthony Weiner? USS Barney Frank?

Certainly can't name one the USS Sarah Palin.

It might just quit in the middle of an engagement...... to go make some money somewhere.
