U.S. Braced for Fights With Pakistanis in Bin Laden Raid

In revealing additional details about planning for the mission, senior officials also said that two teams of specialists were on standby: One to bury Bin Laden if he was killed, and a second composed of lawyers, interrogators and translators in case he was captured alive. That team was set to meet aboard a Navy ship, mostly likely the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson in the North Arabian Sea.

Mr. Obama’s decision to increase the size of the force sent into Pakistan shows that he was willing to risk a military confrontation with a close ally in order to capture or kill the leader of Al Qaeda.

Such a fight would have set off an even larger breach with the Pakistanis than has taken place since officials in Islamabad learned that helicopters filled with members of a Navy Seals team had flown undetected into one of their cities, and burst into a compound where Bin Laden was hiding.

One senior Obama administration official, pressed on the rules of engagement for one of the riskiest clandestine operations attempted by the C.I.A. and the military’s Joint Special Operations Command in many years, said: “Their instructions were to avoid any confrontation if at all possible. But if they had to return fire to get out, they were authorized to do it.”

Right after we got OBL we used a a drone in an attack and did it again to kill a few Arabs in the north of Pakistan and no fall out as of yet. Lets hope none comes.

Yeah I saw that. Pakis may have fallen off a turnip truck, but it wasn't yesterday.

They know how close Israel is and how much secret unimaginable **** the us has to wipe their noses f necessary.

but true in many ways.

I think the real problem is the Army is stonge and set in place while the civil government is weak and in shambles in many ways.

I know not all of the civilians are anti US. The country has what some 21+ million people.

But as we have seen in many places even here at home, it only takes a few to start trouble.

Does anybody really believe the story being told to us about the raid to get Osama? Really? The Paki's had no idea two helicopters flew across the border from India their sworn enemy? One of the helicopters crashes, they have a 40 minute firefight, they set a house on fire, a civilian tweets about it as it happens and nobody responds from the military? In their own military city? Minutes from their capitol? Really?

Yes really don't you listen to the latest news?

Funny about that as China today were asking for what was left of the copter. Which I heard on the news a while ago.. No links yet.

Seems we have a very silent copter which hasn't been made public yet. And it is why we asked to have it returned by Pakistan.

Now why would we want a blown up copter returned? All that is left is the tail boom which has some very special equipment in it plus the rotor.

In the hast to leave the Special ops guys messed up a bit. But over all they did a great job didn't they.

Sure they did a great job and yes the helicopter had some stealth technology. Might I point out that when a helicopter blows up during your raid - it is no longer stealthy?

Blowing up being the exact opposite of stealth.

well. we really don't know what's in or on or with that helicopter, soooo, it's nice to know that the chinese want to take a look and the pakis are going to accomodate them. So much for 'friends'. We've got marvelous capabilities for striking targets from WAY up....so. let's do it.
