See I just don't post and go on to somethng else. I go back and read the news in that region and some of it is ugly to say the least.

After doing this for so long I started to lose my feeling of mankind. Plus starting to hate another group of people.

I hope it is because the troopers have returned to their families, and not burnt out like I became.

..Afghan official: 6 dead from roadside bomb

Associated Press – 7 hrs ago...

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan officials say a roadside bomb has killed six civilians in southern Afghanistan, while a rocket attack in the west killed one.

Police investigative director Gullab Khan said a civilian vehicle on Saturday hit the bomb on a road in southern Uruzgan province, killing six and wounding one. He had no other details.

In the western province of Farah, officials said one civilian was killed and another 27 people were wounded when three rockets were fired at the governor's office. Mohammad Ghaws Milyar, who is deputy provincial police chief, said that a motorcycle bomb detonated outside the building in Farah city at the same time.

Health department director Abdul Jabar Shayeq said seven children were among the wounded in the attacks.

.Manhunt is on for Taliban militants who executed Afghan woman accused of adultery

By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Lookout – 8 hrs ago. 9 July 2012 .....

A manhunt is under way in Afghanistan for a group of men who publicly executed a woman accused of adultery.

The video of the execution—which showed men cheering after the woman was killed—sparked immediate outrage. It's unclear when the execution in the village of Qimchok in the Parwan province near Kabul took place. Afghan authorities said the men were Taliban militants; a spokesman for the Taliban denied responsibility for the killing.

At least nine shots were fired by one of the men with an AK-47 at close range, the three-minute video showed.

"Murdering a woman who did not even have a voice for defending herself is a sign of cowardice, and such a crime is unforgivable in Islam and the country's laws," Afghan President Hamid Karzai said in a statement, vowing to bring the killers to justice

Maybe Afghan law says it is a crime. But I have heard about these stories in about every Islamic country and in places in the West where there is a large population leaning toward Sheria Laws.

"We are still looking for people who were involved in this brutal act," Parwan Gov. Abdul Basir Salangi told CNN.

Salangi told Agence France-Presse that authorities are searching for those responsible "but the Taliban, including the killer, have fled to the mountains."

According to Salangi, the 22-year-old woman identified as "Najiba," was married to one Taliban commander and accused of adultery with another. "Within one hour they decided that she was guilty and sentenced her to death," he said.

Now thats a cleaver way out of a marriage. And I am not ing

.Afghan women protest over woman's public execution

AFP – 8 hrs ago. 11 July 2012 .........................................

Dozens of rights activists took to the streets Wednesday to protest over the recent public execution of a young woman for alleged adultery, which was captured in a horrific video.

The 22-year-old victim was shot dead as dozens of men cheered in a village about 100 kilometres (60 miles) north of the capital Kabul.

The execution was blamed by the authorities on Taliban militants and caused global outrage, with world leaders denouncing the Islamists, who are waging an insurgency against the Western-backed government.

"We want justice," the protesters, almost all women, chanted as they marched from the women's affairs ministry to President Hamid Karzai's heavily-fortified palace.

The crowd, stopped at the first layer of multiple security lines around the palace, shouted that Karzai should take action over the execution.

"The execution of the woman by the Taliban was a crime... the government must do everything to bring the culprits to justice," parliamentarian Shinkai Karokhail, who joined the march, told AFP.

"This is the duty of the government to deliver justice."

The demonstrators included Sahar Gul, the child-bride victim of an internationally notorious case of abuse by her husband's family when she refused to work as a prostitute.

Gul, 15, who was burned and beaten and had her fingernails pulled out, was found in the basement of her husband's house last December in northeastern Baghlan province, where she had been locked in a toilet for six months.

See my problem I see this and am suppose to accept that the insurgents are humans. way they are low bread animals, that need to be killed in every location one can find them.

Now I have to pray for forgiveness... This is no way to live for me.

Since recovering from her injuries after being rescued by police, she has become a symbol of resistance in the poverty-stricken and deeply conservative nation where women are still often treated as second-class citizens.

Another woman on the march bore the scars of having had acid thrown in her face by a man whom she refused to marry.

Karzai condemned the execution as un-Islamic and unforgivable and security forces have launched a manhunt for those responsible.

The commander of NATO's 130,000 troops in Afghanistan, General John Allen, offered to help local security forces track and capture the men involved in what he called "an atrocity of unspeakable cruelty".

Public executions of alleged adulterers were common when the Taliban were in power from 1996 until 2001, when they were ousted by a US-led invasion for harbouring Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden after the 9/11 attacks.

.5,000 Taliban left the battlefield since 2010: NATO

AFP – 5 hrs ago. 16 July 2012 ..............................................

Nearly 5,000 former Afghan insurgents have given up their weapons and more are joining a reintegration programme, but it has not dented the overall Taliban force, a NATO general said Monday.

The number of former fighters in the Afghan peace and reintegration programme has grown from around 4,000 in late 2011 to 4,946 today, said Major General David Hook, who leads the NATO cell assisting the Afghan-led effort.

Another 600 are being vetted to determine whether they qualify to join the programme, which began in October 2010 and offers a stipend of $360 over three months to ease fighters out of the battlefield, Hook said.

"The figures continue to trend very gently up," the British officer told reporters during a visit to NATO headquarters in Brussels.

The programme has had great success in the north and west of the country, allowing Afghan security forces to focus on fighting in Taliban hotbeds elsewhere, he said.

"Has it made a dent in terms of a nationwide perspective? Probably not," Hook said, refusing to provide estimates of the overall Taliban force.

The number of people joining the programme grew by 60 percent between November 2011 and March 2012 compared to any other four-month period, he said. In the east alone, the number jumped 300 percent.

"Is it having an effect across the whole of Afghanistan in what I would think of in military and strategic terms? No. Is it having an operational-level effect, yes it is," Hook said.

"In the north and west, where integration has been its most successful, we now have latitude to have a discussion with the Afghans about the Afghans moving battalions down to Helmand (province)," the general added.

NATO forces are gradually handing over security responsibility to Afghan security forces, with the goal of giving them the lead nationwide in 2013 before foreign combat troops are withdrawn at the end of 2014.

.Tribesmen rise up against Afghan Taliban

By Waseem Nikzad and Sardar Ahmad | AFP – 5 hrs ago. 20 July 2012 .....

About 200 tribesmen gathered in an eastern Afghan town this week to mark what they said was an uprising against Taliban insurgents -- the latest in a series of such moves, officials say.

Analysts caution that the so-called uprisings could be attempts by local militia leaders to reassert their authority ahead of the 2014 withdrawal of NATO troops supporting the government of President Hamid Karzai.

Or they could be orchestrated as part of a government strategy, they say.

But on Wednesday, in the central bazaar of Alishing, a farming district in eastern Laghman province, the tribesmen -- some carrying AK-47 rifles or rocket-propelled grenades -- made their intentions clear.

"We're fed up with the Taliban and their brutal aggressions against our people," a tribal elder among the protesters, Ghulam Rasoul, told AFP at the scene.

"We're standing up against them and will not allow them to oppress our people and kill our people," the turbaned elder said.

Gee after 10+ years some one set the alarm clock to reality.

Laghman provincial administration spokesman Sarhadi Zwak told AFP that Alishing's revolt was the latest in a series of similar moves across the province northeast of Kabul.

And since mid-May, self-armed tribal militia have secured several villages in Ghazni province's Andar district south of the capital, a senior interior ministry source told AFP.

They were keeping the Taliban at bay and helped reopen dozens of schools the insurgents had closed, he said on condition of anonymity.

Although at an early stage, the revolts have worried the insurgents.

"Taliban fighters used to control most of the provinces, but now they are losing ground in areas like Helmand, Kunduz and more recently Kandahar, Zabul and Ghazni," a mid-level Taliban source told AFP in Pakistan.

"They lost ground to tribal militias because they don't let people access basic services, especially school," said the source, who belongs to the militants' political wing and travels regularly between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"That is what happened in Ghazni two months ago," he said

.Five NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan

AFP – 1 hr 13 mins ago. 22 July 2012 ..........................

Five NATO soldiers were killed in three separate attacks in Afghanistan at the weekend, the International Security Assistance Force said Sunday.

Four died in two roadside bomb explosions Sunday, in the east and in the south, while another was killed in an insurgent attack in the east on Saturday, ISAF said.

In line with policy, the International Security Assistance Force statement did not name the nationalities of the dead or give any further details.

The latest deaths take the total toll among the US-led coalition so far this year to more than 250, according to the website icasualties.org.

Also at the weekend, Taliban insurgents executed five civilians near Kabul for working with NATO troops, Afghan authorities said Sunday.

The militants captured six Afghans returning home from work at a NATO base in Wardak province south of Kabul, bound their hands, shot them and left their booby-trapped bodies on the road, the provincial governor's office said

But it is roadside bombs, a favourite weapon of Taliban insurgents, that have taken a particularly heavy toll in Afghanistan this month.

Six American soldiers died in a huge blast on July 8 in the east, which is the focus of a NATO push against insurgents along the border with Pakistan.

On the same day, 18 civilians travelling in three vehicles were killed in southern Kandahar province.

Among other notable recent attacks, eight civilians, five Afghan police and two NATO soldiers were killed in three separate explosions last Thursday.

The attacks were blamed on Taliban insurgents -- hardline Islamists who have waged a decade-long campaign to topple the government of President Hamid Karzai, which is backed by 130,000 NATO troops.

For the past five years the number of civilians killed in the war has risen steadily, reaching a record 3,021 in 2011 -- the vast majority caused by insurgents, according to UN figures.

I read 21 comments, which many are from Muslins backers, these people would support any take over of any country in the world. As would most of all of the Muslims everywhere I believe.

As matter how you look at them, most are directly hatefull of the West and it is always their way or no way, never any middle ground.

Look at Syria and what is happening there. Not one Arab/Muslim country has done more than talk, nothing else period! And they blame the West for not stopping this mad regime.
When they ought to mount a joint force and do what needs to be done, to stop the killings & imprisonment of plain folks.

No that would look like they were democratic, and thats the last thing most in power want to project.

.Report: Afghan militants have mafia-like financing

By SEBASTIAN ABBOT | Associated Press – 7 hrs ago. 1 August 2012 .....

ISLAMABAD (AP) — One of the deadliest militant groups in Afghanistan, the Haqqani network, has developed a sophisticated, "mafia"-style financing operation that relies on extortion, kidnapping, smuggling and ties to legitimate businesses, according to a new report by a U.S.-based think tank.

The report by the Combating Terrorism Center in West Point, N.Y., suggests the system has become so lucrative that maintaining it could be as much of a goal for the group as driving foreign forces out of Afghanistan. That could complicate U.S. efforts to negotiate an end to the war since much of the network's cash flow is dependent on instability and lawlessness bred by the conflict.

"Life at war has become lucrative — even if highly risky — while an end to the fighting would almost certainly produce a decline in wealth and power," said the report, which was released Tuesday and was based on archival records, documents captured in Afghanistan and interviews with Western, Afghan and Pakistani officials, as well as locals in areas where the Haqqani network operates.

The U.S. has identified the Haqqani network, allied with al-Qaida and the Taliban, as one of its most potent enemies in Afghanistan, partly because of its record of carrying out high-profile attacks on the capital Kabul. The leaders of the group are based in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area, having fled there from their homeland in eastern Afghanistan following the U.S.-led invasion in 2001.

The U.S. has repeatedly demanded that Pakistan prevent Haqqani fighters from using North Waziristan as a base to attack troops in Afghanistan, but Islamabad has refused, saying it is stretched too thin fighting domestic militants. Most analysts believe Pakistan is reluctant to target a group with which it has strong historical ties and could be a useful ally in Afghanistan after foreign forces withdraw.
