SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Hannaford Supermarkets is alerting consumers that Cargill Beef is voluntarily recalling 29,339 pounds of ground beef that may contain salmonella.

The 85-percent-lean ground beef was produced at Cargill's plant in Wyalusing, Pa., on May 25, and repackaged for sale to consumers by customers of the Kansas-based company.

Cargill President John Keating says in a statement, "Food borne illnesses are unfortunate and we are sorry for anyone who became sick from eating ground beef we may have produced."

Hannaford's says consumers should check their ground beef for "use or sell by" dates between May 29 and June 16. Refunds will be offered for ground beef with those dates that is returned.

Additional information is available at the U.S. Department of Agriculture recall website at: FSIS Recalls (Meat, Poultry & Egg Products).

Nice catch MrLiberty

I am glad my doctors told me to stop eating red meat, as this isn't Cargill Beef first time at bat with such a large amount, And I bet they get some Govt., help for the other 29,339 pounds of ground beef that may contain salmonella.

These big meat plants, and other large deals that put the mom & pops or the family farmers out of business do have a higher failure rate if one does a search & gathers facts.

Like your grocery store: how long does the fruit take to become ripe? Then how many times does to become uneatable because it ripens to much?

Even with all of the additives most things expire in weeks.

And if anything were to stop trucking any area would be in for a lot of problems.
And if were national do you think the govt., would be able to help all of us?

Unless they learned a thing or two from Katrina many of us would die or take from others as society went from the mess it is to total chaos

Back to reality....
I do cheat about every 3 months, but with top of the line steaks. Cooked with just a small bit of pink in a thin layer in the middle...

I have a neighborhood butcher who only buys grain feed beef with no steroids and I buy rib eye steaks cut about an inch and a quarter thick. Throw them on the grill and get them a nice medium rare. MMMmmmmmm, I'm making myself hungry.

Well another recall of some Hyundai products.

Quote:
.Hyundai recalls some Santa Fe, Sonata for air bags

Associated Press – 5 hrs ago. 28 July 2012 ..............

DETROIT (AP) — Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling some Santa Fe SUVs and Sonata sedans because of problems with their air bags.

The Santa Fe recall involves nearly 200,000 vehicles in the 2007 to 2009 model years. Hyundai dealers will reprogram the front passenger air bag sensors so they will accurately detect when a small adult is seated.

Hyundai said it received complaints from some adults under 130 pounds whose air bags didn't deploy. No injuries have been reported. The air bags were originally programmed not to go off to protect children.

The company is also recalling 22,500 Sonata sedans from the 2012 and 2013 model years because their side air bags could go off without warning.

Hyundai said it has received 16 complaints about the Sonata's air bags, but no injuries have been reported.

Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

And 91 comments, one which doesn't like to hear about recalls being made public, which I strongly disagee with.

Ford's turn for recalls. keep making them over in India, and what you save will bit you in the end.

But what does Ford or any car maker care it is the customer that get hits to.

.Ford India recalls 111,000 cars over fault fears

AFP – 4 hrs ago. 13 August 2012 ........................

US auto giant Ford's India unit said on Monday it was recalling at least 111,000 vehicles to check for potentially faulty parts that could cause breakdowns or fires.

How does this become "fault FEARS"?

Ford India said it wanted to inspect certain batches of its top-selling Figo hatchback and Classic sedan models that rolled off assembly lines between January 2008 and February 2011 for possible problems.

Ford in a statement called the recall "a voluntary and pre-emptive" action and said no injuries relating to the possible problems had been reported.

The recall is among the biggest by a car firm operating in India.

The company said it would replace the power steering hose on some cars because of fears a possible oil leak could cause fire "in extreme cases".

The firm also said it wanted to check other vehicles for a potential suspension problem that could render the cars "inoperable" and promised to replace any defective parts.

A Ford spokesman said 17,655 units of Ford Figo and Ford Classic would have their power steering hoses replaced and around 111,000 vehicles would be inspected for potential cracks in the suspension.

A number of the cars will be checked for both problems.

Mango Recall with a lot of cases of salmonella...

Quote:
Mango recall follows 105 salmonella cases in 16 states

By Elizabeth Weise, USA TODAY. 31 August 2012 ................

A recall of potentially salmonella-tainted mangoes from Mexico may have involved as many as 900,000 pieces of the tropical fruit.

The Daniella-brand mangoes were grown and harvested in Mexico and sold in the United States between July 12 and Aug. 29, Splendid Products spokesman Ernest DelBuono said.

The mangoes were sold as individual fruit with the sticker brand "Daniella." Each fruit was also marked with a small sticker with one of the following codes: 4051, 4959, 4311, 4584 or 3114.

STORY: Mango brand pulled in salmonella scare
The mangoes were sold at supermarkets including Costco, Save Mart Supermarkets, Food 4 Less, Ralph's, Topco stores, El Super, Kroger, Giant-Eagle, Stop & Shop, Aldi and Whole Foods, DelBuono said.

Consumers who have purchased these recalled mangoes should not eat them and should throw them away.

The fruit was grown by Agricola Daniela, a large grower near the town of Ahome, on the coast of the Sea of Cortez in the northwestern part of the Mexican state of Sinaloa, DelBuono said.

Federal officials are investigating 105 illnesses involving salmonella Braenderup that may be linked to the tropical fruit. The cases have occurred in 16 states since July 1, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Mangoes typically have a shelf life of between five and eight days from the day they're sold, DelBuono said. "At this point, there are few mangoes even out there, between the recall and the fact that they would have been consumed or thrown out by the consumer."

Last week, an importer in Canada initiated a voluntary recall of Daniella-brand mangoes as the result of 22 illnesses reported there. The CDC confirms that the DNA fingerprint of the Canadian cases and the U.S. cases match.

Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, a common bacterial illness. Salmonellosis can lead to diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight to 72 hours, as well as chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days. Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems such as infants and the elderly, the CDC says.

This is not a normal recall of some product. It is a recall of all visiters to one of our National Parks, in CA., Yosemite. Now the dates a week apart in this bit of news, is why I added the search page.

Quote:
California officials confirm six cases of Yosemite hantavirus infection

From 31 Aug. Posted 7 Sept. 2012 ............................

(CBS/AP) The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) said four more cases of hantavirus infection have been discovered in Yosemite park visitors who stayed in Curry Village this summer. Six people have been confirmed to have contracted the rodent-borne illness that typically causes death in one-third of those infected.

2,900 Yosemite visitors warned about possible exposure to deadly hantavirus

"CDPH is working closely with the National Park Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to further investigate the cluster of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome cases in Yosemite and reduce the risk of other visitors becoming ill from this virus," CDPH Director, Dr. Ron Chapman said in the press release. "CDPH is continuing to monitor cases of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome in persons who visited Yosemite National Park."

Two people have already died from contracting the virus at the park, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.

On the news a moment ago it was said, " that out of 10 people who chatch it 3 will die "

GM recalls more than 40,000 cars on fuel leak concerns

@CNNMoneySeptember 29, 2012: 1:15 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- General Motors is recalling more than 40,000 vehicles, citing concerns that a fuel pump module could crack and cause a fire in the event of a fuel leak.

The recall, disclosed in a letter by GM (GM, Fortune 500) to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Friday, affects five models from 2007 through 2009: the Chevrolet Cobalt (2007-2009), Chevrolet Equinox (2007), Pontiac G5 (2007-2009), Pontiac Torrent (2007) and Saturn Ion (2007).

GM said the models were originally sold or registered in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. GM said the cars "have a condition in which the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, which could cause a fuel leak."

The automaker said that it will notify owners about the recall, and that dealers will replace the fuel pump module for free.

This is the third recall for GM in the past few months. Earlier in September, GM said it was recalling more than 426,000 sedans in the U.S. because of transmission problems. In June, GM recalled more than 400,000 Chevrolet Cruzes due to engine issues.

I love smoked salmon, but lucky me haven't had any of late.

.Smoked salmon blamed for salmonella outbreak

By CANDICE CHOI and MIKE CORDER | Associated Press – Tue, Oct 2, 2012 6:14 PM EDT. Posted 4 Oct.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Smoked salmon tainted with salmonella has sickened hundreds of people in the Netherlands, authorities said, sparking major recalls there and in the U.S.

U.S. health authorities say they are also investigating whether the salmon could be at the root of a multi-state outbreak of the illness.

The Netherlands' National Institute for Public Health and the Environment said the salmon was traced to a Dutch company called Foppen, which sells fish to many major supermarkets in the Netherlands and stores around the world.

In the U.S. Foppen said it only supplied the fish to CostCo Wholesale Corp. It did not believe the contaminated fish was sold to any other countries.

The Dutch public health institute said that around 200 people — and likely more — have been sickened in the Netherlands by a strain of the bacteria called Salmonella Thompson.

A representative for the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control Prevention, Lola Russell, says the federal agency has 85 recorded cases of the same strain from 27 states starting from July 1. Without an outbreak, she said the average number of such cases over that time would be about 30.

"We've investigating a possible link between the cases in the U.S. and cases in the Netherlands," Russell said.

That process entails state public health officials interviewing patients to find out what they may have eaten before they got sick, including the smoked salmon.

Russell said 10 people have been hospitalized, with no deaths.
