Goodyear recalls 41,000 Wrangler Silent Armor tires

Quote:
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co said Saturday it would recall about 41,000 of its Wrangler Silent Armor tires produced in 2009 over concerns that a small number could tear, leading to crashes.

Two people died in one 2011 rollover crash in Texas involving a vehicle equipped with the tires, Goodyear spokesman Scott Baughman said.

Baughman said about 27,000 of the tires were still believed to be in service. The tires are used on pickup trucks, vans and sport-utility vehicles, often at construction sites or for off-road applications, he said.

Goodyear said in a letter to federal safety regulators that it first saw an increase in warranty and property damage claims during a review in May 2010. The recall covers 40,915 tires produced in six sizes from March to May 2009.

"A small number of tires within this population may experience a partial tread area separation under certain severe usage conditions," Goodyear said in a February 22 letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "Use of these tires in severe conditions could result in partial tread separation which could lead to vehicle damage or a motor vehicle crash."

Goodyear said it inspected in December the tire involved in last year's fatal crash in Texas and found it had sustained damage from external causes, the company said in the letter to NHTSA.

Still, based on an analysis of the warranty and damage claims, and discussion with safety regulators, Goodyear decided on February 16 to recall the tires, it said. It plans to send notices to customers by March 22.

I posted the one I had which is the same news as yours I think. But Yahoo makes it much easier to post items than the site you have. And it is a lot shorter.

I read your news story after I posted the one I had.

.Second Birth Control Pill Recall in Month

By Katie Moisse | ABC News Blogs – Mon, Feb 27, 2012. Posted 1 March 2012

Less than one month after Pfizer recalled nearly 1 million packages of faulty birth control pills, Glenmark Generics has recalled its version of the oral contraceptives because of a packaging error that landed the pills in the wrong order.

The India-based drug company has warned that seven lots of norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol tablets distributed to U.S. pharmacies between Sept. 21 and Dec. 30, 2011, "could leave women without adequate contraception, and at risk for unintended pregnancy."

"Select blisters were rotated 180 degrees within the card, reversing the weekly tablet orientation and making the lot number and expiry date visible only on the outer pouch," the company said in a statement released Friday, explaining the packaging error.

The correct packaging aligns 28 tablets in four rows, with the white tablets containing norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol in the top row and light green placebo tablets in the bottom row.

The affected lot numbers are 04110101, 04110106, 04110107, 04110114, 04110124, 04110129 and 04110134.

"Patients who have the affected product should notify their physician and return the product to the pharmacy" and "begin using a nonhormonal form of contraception immediately," the company said.

NOT a RECALL yet. But it needs to be investigated, so if you own one and had the throttle getting stuck, give your dealer a call.

Feds probe Ford Tauruses for stuck throttles

By msnbc.com news reports.. Posted 12 March 2012

U.S. safety regulators have opened an investigation into an estimated 360,000 Ford Taurus sedans for a potential problem with the throttle getting stuck in an open position.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it is investigating the 2005 and 2006 model years.

The NHTSA said on its website that 14 people have complained about the problem. No crashes or injuries have been reported, but several drivers said they felt unsafe when the throttles became stuck. One ran a red light and entered an intersection before the car could be stopped.

A preliminary investigation is the first step in a process that could lead to a recall if regulators determine that a manufacturer needs to address a safety issue.

The agency says the cruise control cable may become detached and hold the throttle open. Drivers have reported that it was hard to stop the car with the brakes, and several said they had to shut off the engine or shift into neutral to stop.

The investigation, opened last Wednesday, does not include a nearly identical car, the Mercury Sable. NHTSA posted documents outlining the probe on its website over the weekend. The investigation could lead to a recall, but so far none has been ordered.
Bottom Line - Feds probe Ford Tauruses for stuck throttles

Honda turn at a recall.

..Honda recalls nearly 53,000 Acura TL sedans in US

Associated Press – 6 hrs ago... 17 May 2012

DETROIT (AP) — Honda says it's recalling nearly 53,000 Acura TL sedans in the U.S. to fix a problem with power steering hoses.

The hoses can deteriorate over time and leak fluid. That can cause the cars to lose power steering or even cause a fire.

The sedans are from the 2007 and 2008 model years. Honda says there have been no reported crashes, injuries or fires related to the problem.

Honda Motor Co. recalled 273,000 TLs in in 2008 for a similar problem. They were from the 2004 through 2008 model years.

Owners will get letters in mid-June telling them to take their cars to an Acura dealer.

Well now it is Chrysler's turn.........

Quote:
..Chrysler recalls nearly 87,000 Jeep Wranglers due to risk of fires

By The Associated Press | Associated Press – 4 hrs ago... 19 May 2012

DETROIT - Chrysler is recalling nearly 87,000 Jeep Wranglers in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere due to a risk of fires.

The recall affects only Wranglers from the 2010 model year that have automatic transmissions and were built before July 14, 2010.

The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on its website.

It says debris can get caught between a plate that protects the transmission and the catalytic converter, causing a fire. A catalytic converter is part of the exhaust system and uses heat and precious metals to control pollution.

Chrysler spokesman Eric Mayne says the recall affects about 68,000 Wranglers in the U.S., 6,000 in Canada, 1,500 in Mexico and about 11,000 in other countries.

Chrysler knows of at least 14 complaints of fires caused by the problem with 2010 Wranglers.

The company says it doesn't know of any injuries. It says debris can get trapped when the SUVs are driven off-road or through tall brush.

Chrysler, which makes the classic Wrangler and other Jeeps, will fix the problem free of charge by replacing the plate with a bar so debris doesn't get caught.

Chrysler will contact all the owners by mail. Recall work is expected to begin this month.

The NHTSA also checked Wranglers from the 2007 through 2012 model years and determined that only the 2010 models had the debris problem. Mayne said the 2010 Wranglers had a transmission plate and catalytic converter that were configured differently than the Wranglers from the other model years.

NHTSA said in documents that it had received 14 complaints of Wrangler fires from the other model years, but Mayne said there was no pattern or common cause in those fires.
